Job Description

Vaco Financial is seeking an Accounting Manager (up to 90k salary) with construction experience to join a growing building services company in Memphis, TN.

Under the direction of a Corporate Controller, the Accounting Manager would be responsible for establishing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures, maintaining fiscal reports, and preparing financial statements and reports all while providing guidance and direction to the administrative team and directly managing the accounting staff.

The Accounting Manager's daily responsibilities are as follows:

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, overseeing payment processing, cash application, credit cards, banking, fixed assets, sales tax returns
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly close, including reporting of all monthly financial information, state and local tax returns
  • Maintain schedules of all balance sheet accounts, and general ledger ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial transactions and reporting
  • Analyze job costing transactions and reports, and revise as needed
  • Lead, hire, train, and manage accounting staff, establishing annual performance goals and objectives, monitoring and advising on progress to enhance professional development
  • Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and enhance workflow and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy and an emphasis on internal controls
  • Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions
  • Provide accounting and reporting guidance to other departments by researching and interpreting accounting policy and applying observations and recommendations to operational issues
  • Assist Controller in achieving accounting operational objectives by identifying trends, analyzing variances, reporting financial metrics, and KPIs
  • Protect the company's value by maintaining confidentiality of information
  • Work with Controller to ensure a clean and timely yearend audit
  • Respond to inquiries from business leaders regarding financial reports, special information requests, as needed
  • Other responsibilities as assigned; light travel may be required

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA a plus
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting practices and principles
  • Experience in the Construction industry is a VERY big plus
  • 5-7 years progressive accounting experience, construction industry experience preferred
  • Knowledge of automated financial and accounting system or ERP system required; JD Edwards a plus
  • Advanced Excel knowledge
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to adhere to schedules and deadlines
  • Ability to manage personnel and priorities to meet all deadlines associated with time-sensitive work
