Job Description

ASSISTANT CONTROLLER

Our client, a local wholesaler, is looking for an Assistant Controller to join their accounting team. The Assistant Controller will manage assigned functions to support the accounting books for our client and their portfolio companies.

This role will oversee a team of six associates in the processing of accounting entries and activities. You will also supervise monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close and financial reporting and develop procedures and controls to ensure compliance, accuracy, and efficiency of team output. The Assistant Controller plays a critical role in conversions, acquisitions, and mergers.

Responsibilities
  • Manages teams, month end close activities Oversees daily activities and participates in special initiatives such as implementation of new accounting standards, mergers, acquisitions, and conversions.
  • Review and approve journal entries prepared by other team members as well as prepare journal entries for more complex accounting matters
  • Prepare/review various balance sheet account reconciliations ensuring proper supporting documentation
  • Analyze and document Income Statement and Balance Sheet fluctuations monthly
  • Liaise with teams across multiple departments and locations to obtain and distribute financial information
  • Coordinate with external auditors on annual audits. Prepare/review audit documentation as requested
  • Assist with supervision of the team and provide training and guidance to team members
  • Ensures financial platforms are functioning properly to support month-end close, external, and internal reporting requirements.
  • Partners with associates, business units, and managers to support daily accounting operations. Works closely with auditors and regulatory agencies in evaluating financial data and department processes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • Active CPA
  • Have 8+ years of experience required including 2 years of experience managing and leading a team
  • Must have month-end close exp.
  • Have comprehensive and current understanding of US GAAP, including recently issued accounting pronouncements
