Job Description

The Lead Systems Administrator is responsible for playing a significant role in maintaining the operation, integrity, security, and management of a variety of cloud-based and on-premises computing solutions including Microsoft 365, VMWare, and Azure technologies. This is a hands-on role involving project execution, technical solutions, management, and architecture of Azure infrastructure. Acting as an escalation point for the Help Desk team, the Lead Systems Administrator will be responsible for the architecture and deployment of the Azure cloud development and test environments.

Essential Job Duties

  • Provides ongoing support to server environment to include installing, configuring, securing, monitoring, backups, and maintaining physical and virtual servers (i.e. internal, external, cloud, and shared assets).
  • Leads and develops the System Administrator and the Help Desk teams by setting priorities and creating efficiencies while providing support and direction.
  • Provides support for end-users, leads departmental projects, and provides expertise to keep the servers and network operating at maximum capacity.
  • Provides ongoing support for a full stack solution that include servers, storage, virtualization platforms, and networking devices with a solid understanding of high availability and disaster recovery.
  • Supports configuration, architecture, and management of VMWare and Azure cloud computing solutions.
  • Responsible for the ongoing maintenance and future planning needs of the company's infrastructure.
  • Consults with the Manager of Network and Security to support and design infrastructure expansion and integration projects.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Roles

  • Assume responsibility for the operations of the Data Center(s) - to ensure server farm, cloud platforms, backup, and storage facilities are kept up to date by best practices. This includes:
  • Operating system upgrades and patches, 3rd party software patches, SQL upgrades and patches, firmware updates, and security patches.
  • Report on network performance, connectivity issues, and hardware issues.
  • Analyze Application connectivity and performance within the server farm and 3rd party applications. Present metrics and make recommendations to the Director of Information Services.
  • Optimize network performance through analysis, and performance tuning. Troubleshoot network problems such as utilization, throughput, and latency.
  • Handle business-critical IT tasks and systems to insure the smooth and continuous operations of the company's technology platforms across the organization

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or an Associates' degree with 5 years' Network and Systems Administrator experience in an enterprise Data center environment;
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows Server 2012, 2016, and 2019 implementation and administration duties;
  • Advanced understanding and administration of SSO/MFA, Active Directory and AzureAD services, Office365, Intune, JAMF, and M365 Admin Centers;
  • 5+ years' experience using VMWare Virtualization preferred;
  • 3+ years' experience using Azure preferred;
  • Strong understanding and background of working with a complex Active Directory, Azure AD, LDAP, including group policy objects, domain trusts, and Active Directory and Azure AD synchronization;
  • Experience designing, building, and supporting systems in Microsoft Azure Cloud;
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft SQL, PowerShell scripting, and Linux servers;
  • Strong knowledge of Backup, Restore, Recovery, and high availability strategies for on-prem and Microsoft Azure environments;
  • Advanced knowledge of DNS, DHCP, Kerberos, and Windows Authentication;
  • Knowledge of network protocols such as DNS, SMTP, SNMP, SSH, SFTP;
  • Knowledge of Network and TCP/IP routing/subnetting;
  • Knowledge of network equipment (i.e. routing, switching, and firewalls);
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Strong time management skills;
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize;
  • Ability to work individually or in a team-based environment;
  • Must always maintain a high level of confidentiality along with the ability to properly handle sensitive materials concerning the organization;
