Description:

Seeking an experienced Corporate Controller to join a winning team. They are a fast growing; privately held hotel Management Company with 25 select service properties in California with several additional hotel projects in the pipeline.

The individual that we seek for this position will bring solid leadership, customer service, and effective communication skills (both oral and written). Proven ability to work with ownership in developing/maintaining strong relationships, out of the box thinker, high level of integrity, strong management and sound technical skills are all key areas that will be utilized to evaluate candidates against our criteria.

This key role will partner with both the Corporate Finance team as well as leaders at the property level to assist with all accounting and financial requirements for each respective property, providing financial support and technical expertise with the goal of maximizing profit and safeguarding hotel assets.

Reporting to the President/CEO and Vice President, the Controller will have responsibility for directing and overseeing the organization's overall accounting, finance and internal audit processes for the company, as well as identifying and developing new standards and procedures in these areas. These functions also include working with the individual hotel General Managers in maintaining and improving the organization's accounting principles, practices, procedures and internal controls.

In addition, the position will be key in building and maintaining positive relationships with owners, investors and other external partners as well as leading and developing the Accounting/Finance team.


Responsibilities:

  • Act as a financial consultant; provide information on the financial impact of business decisions for all segments of management responsible for policy or action concerning any phase of the business that relates to attainment of objectives, effectiveness of policies and organization structure and procedures.
  • Monitor compliance with hotel and accounting policies and procedures, legal requirements, and contractual obligations (including obligations under a management agreement) utilizing internal controls, auditing and security procedures to ensure deviations are brought to the attention of the General Manager and appropriate regional management and to protect the hotel's assets.
  • Aids training of accounting department associates in accordance with established objectives, policies, and procedures as availability permits. Supports and collaborates with peers by sharing knowledge and assisting with questions and inquiries.
  • Manage Gross Receipts and Business Taxes and 1099-Misc forms Preparation & Filing.
  • Tracks cash flow: expert oversight of corporate AR and AP. Oversees intercompany account reconciliation.
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements, accruals, account reconciliations and variance/analytical analysis.
  • Ensures the accuracy of monthly/quarterly sales, use, and occupancy taxes, investigating and resolving variances.
  • Prepare and review budgets, forecasts, operating results and sales and related tax compliance.
  • Maintain compliance with all local, state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Answer any property, vendor, ownership, or management inquiries, conducting necessary research to provide reliable information.
  • Manage the installation and maintenance of accounting computer systems. Knowledge of M3 desired.
  • Conducts periodic audits of budget items, including comparing theoretical to actual expenses and other budget to actual comparisons.
  • Continually review internal accounting processes for accuracy, effectiveness and timeliness.

Qualifications:

  • A four-year degree in accounting, 4 - 6 years minimum related experience or an equivalent combination of both education and experience.
  • Hospitality experience
  • Extensive knowledge of hotel operations, services and accounting.
  • Has a strong knowledge and understanding of GAAP, accrual basis accounting and financial reporting.
  • Accounting experience in multiple (portfolio) of select service hotels.
  • Excellent communicator with great listening skills, not afraid to have crucial conversations to help someone on their team grow
