Role: Medical Coder

Pay Rate: $30/hr + Medical Benefits & 4 weeks of PTO
Location: Stamford, CT (on-site 5 days a week)

Reporting to the Supervisor, Coding and Billing, the Associate's daily activity will consist of coding procedures within 2 days of completed operative note, submitting the charges, and follow up on outstanding claims. Utilizes monthly the AR report to identify denial trends and ensure timely payments. This role serves as an internal subject matter expert on coding and billing guidelines.

Job Responsibilties:

  • Surgical coding for Orthopedic practice.
  • Maintains and expands knowledge of coding and sequencing guidelines to ensure that all healthcare information is accurately assigned the appropriate CPT and ICD-10CM codes, according to coding and reimbursement guidelines.
  • Stays current on all orthopedic coding guidelines and maintains professional licensure and credentials as necessary.
  • Handles confidential information regarding patient records with knowledge of release of information policies.
  • Provides Coding education to providers on NCCI edits, and surgical coding guidelines. Contacts physicians as needed to clarify documentation to ensure coding and billing accuracy.
  • Assist Surgical Coordinators on coding practices and conventions to provide detailed coding information.
  • Submits clean claims to all payers for the Ambulatory Surgical Center
  • Investigates and resubmits correct claims that have been rejected or denied by the payers
  • Collaborates with the Operations, Clinical Staff, and other departments as necessary.
  • Identifies errors and communicates with manager for correction.
  • Take the lead on internal and external audits.
  • Provides outstanding and enthusiastic customer service to patients, physicians, and staff.
  • Assists with other duties as requested by senior management
