Position Description

The Manager, Research Science supervises a team of research analysts and scientists, both collaborating with and leading scientific studies, delivering OPTN contract reports, and responding to internal and external data requests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, manage and lead team of Research personnel to achieve goals and objectives. This includes all aspects of performance management for Research Analysts and Research Scientists.
  • Provide ongoing mentoring, coaching, development, and prioritization and allocation of resources for staff while collaborating with Principal/Sr. Research Scientists and department leadership to maintain staff focus on strategic direction.
  • Monitors and allocates the work of research analysts in support of scientific studies.
  • Mentors the Research Analysts and Scientists to manage highly complex transplantation-related.
  • Participate in the business development activities in collaboration with Business Services as assigned including meeting with prospective clients, performing contracted research, and assigning support from staff for contracted research.
  • Design and conduct quantitative and qualitative research in the field of organ transplantation in order to complete OPTN contract deliverables and other projects of scientific value.
  • Responsible for the development, direction and execution of research studies.
  • Serve as primary interface with OPTN committees. Provide analytical support and respond to requests from committees.
  • Research highly complex health issues and review published literature for opportunities for new opportunities to advance transplantation knowledge.
  • Lead project teams and monitor project costs.
  • Direct and oversee information gathering; review technical data and information summaries.
  • Collaborate with other researchers and transplantation professionals on presentations and publications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
  • 5 years of statistics, biostatistics, public health or other related experience required
  • 2 years of people management experience required.
Critical Skills

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with statistical programming in R and/or SAS.
  • Strong theoretical foundation in analytical methods in required.
  • Experience in developing and leading research/analytical studies is required.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to do independent research.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • A strong record of publication is preferred.
  • Basic competence in R programming is preferred, SAS and SQL are of interest.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to do independent research.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently and within teams.
  • Experience with data visualization software (Tableau, SAS Visual Analytics, other) is of interest.
  • 2 years of experience in organ transplantation is preferred.
Education

Advanced degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, Public Health, Health Services Research or related field of study, or equivalent work experience required. PhD preferred.
