Job Duties

  • Monthly Financial Statement Preparation and Review.
  • Undertake financial analyses of specific operational support as directed by the Regional Vice-President of Operations.
  • Oversee Customer billing function and maintain regional accounts receivable/collections; ensure that transactions within Oracle are accurate and complete.
  • Annual Business Plan Preparation.
  • Prepare and file reports as required for local/state governments.

Reporting Relationship

  • This position shall report directly to the Senior Director of Financial Operations and CAO, and have a dotted line basis to the Regional Vice-President of Operations (VP - Ops).


The expectations for this position are set out below and correlate to each element of the position's role.

Monthly Financial Statement Preparation and Review

  • Produce accurate and complete monthly financial statements to the schedule prepared and communicated by the Wall, NJ corporate office.
  • Ensure all accounts are reconciled
  • Perform a financial statement review that allows management to fully understand the financial statements and assist in formulating operational action plans to address any issues that arise from the review. To accomplish this, the following process should be used:
    • When preliminary financials are prepared, a review with the operating vice-presidents will take place. The purpose of this review will be to ensure accuracy and completeness. All adjustments coming out of this review shall be discussed with the VP- Ops and if necessary, referred to the Senior Director of Financial Operations and CAO.The secondary purpose of this review shall be to start the process of gathering information to explain variances in the actual results from the business plan.
    • Once the above has taken place, the financials will be finalized and presented to the VP - Ops and the Senior Director of Financial Operations and CAO for their review. Written answers to the variance questions identified at the preliminary stage should accompany these financials.
    • Any additional adjustments and follow up from the VP - Ops and the Senior Director of Financial Operations reviews shall be undertaken immediately, and the financial statements submitted to the Wall, NJ head office in line with the agreed upon schedule.

Annual Business Plan Preparation

  • This position is primarily responsible for the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of the Region's Business Plan.
  • When Business Plans are reviewed, any ancillary information supporting the plan must be available in written form. For example, tracing revenue and margin levels from current year projections to next year's plan.
  • Post review follow up must be accomplished by the due date specified in the planning process schedule so that the Consolidated Business Plan can be prepared for the board presentation of the business plan.

Evaluate opportunities for growth and investment in the Region.

  • Obtain and analyze information regarding potential acquisition candidates. Work in conjunction with the VP - Ops and corporate finance staff (Corp - Finance) to place a recommended value for the target company.
  • Assist in the due diligence process and provide negotiation support.
  • Evaluate and recommend bid pricing in conjunction with the VP - Ops and Corp - Finance.
  • Assist in all aspects of integration/start up of new businesses. Take primary responsibility for the financial elements of this process.

Prepare and file reports as required for local/state/federal governments

  • Ensure that the region is in full compliance with all local, state and federal reporting. This excludes state and federal income tax returns, but would include fuel tax returns, property tax returns and any other reports required to keep our region operations in compliance with laws.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor or Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum 4-5 years experience
  • CPA and/or MBA is a plus
  • Transportation or School Transportation experience is a plus
  • Prior Big 4 experience is a plus
