Job Description

Mainframe Programmer/DBA

Nashville, TN

50/hr W2

6-12 month contract/right to hire/extend

Must have:


  • Cobol
  • DB2
  • CICS

  • Expectations:

    Keep products updated to current versions in the Mainframe environment

    Make sure CPU and disc unit and tapes are optimized and hooked up to the network

    Build a logical partition (LPAR)

    Build a new CICS region

    Install products OS and database in DB2

    Work with security product on the Mainframe (CA's ACF2)

    CA7 or CA 11 maintenance or upgrade their troubleshooting

    Will be on call with CA to troubleshoot (CA Endevor is the library system)

    Job Responsibilities:

    (60%) System installation, upgrades and maintenance

    • z/OS, DB2, CICS, COBOL, QREP, OMEGAMON, WebSphere MQ
    • CA products (7, ACF2, Endevor, Dispatch, Vtape, One, Fast Unload, Workload Automation)
    • Products from other ISV's (Compuware, ASG Technologies, Innovation Data Processing)
    • System configuration (new LPARs, new CICS regions, WLM, network setup and optimization)

    (20%) Provide day to day operational support

    • CA Endevor Software Change Manager administration
    • Disaster Recovery planning/preparation and testing
    • Support storage management, performance tuning, capacity planning, security, networking and operating procedures.
    • Work with vendor support to resolve problems and apply fixes

    (10%) Performance and tuning activities (system and applications)

    (10%) Knowledge Transfer (operators, developers, other technical staff)

    Required Qualifications:


  • Minimum 10 years' experience supporting IBM mainframe operating system environments
  • Proven experience in administering related products, including maintenance and new releases
  • Thorough knowledge and proven ability to perform installation, maintenance, problem analysis and prevention, system tailoring, customization and administration, performance monitoring and tuning, and documentation of IBM z/OS.
  • Proven ability to determine, analyze and resolve software and device related problems.
  • Demonstrated experience with SMP/E, TSO/ISPF, SMF, RMF, SDSF, DFSMS, JES2 and Infoprint
  • Familiarity with Independent Service Vendor (ISV) products
  • Ability to build new LPARs and CICS regions as well as to optimize WLM
  • Ability to configure / optimize mainframe network connections
