Job Description

  • Supervise and guide the activities of the accounting staff, while providing leadership, motivation, and support to drive superior performance including timely and accurate monthly/year-end financial reporting
  • Review on a monthly basis the work of the staff to ensure proper accounting for business activities, transactions, and financial reporting including variance analysis
  • Work with the accounting staff to research and explain budget to actual variances, and communicate in monthly reporting to management
  • Lead, participate and work with the property managers in developing annual operating and capital budgets and cash flow planning
  • Prepare year-end workpaper packages, base year expense reconciliations, and oversee lender and partner compliance reporting
  • Lead year-end work and coordination with the accountants for the preparation of tax returns (prior experience reviewing partnership tax returns would be a plus)
  • Coordinate with construction department to facilitate timely loan draw requests to lenders for construction projects devising a system pursuant to loan documents
  • Participate in various business process and technology initiatives
  • Evaluate financial and operational activities and make recommendations to improve efficiency and internal controls
  • Assist in the management and coordination of internal and external audits
  • Assist with special projects, as needed

Qualifications:

  • Four-year degree from accredited university in accounting;
  • CPA is a plus
  • 6+ years of residential real estate accounting for a development company or a combination of public and private accounting experience with a residential development company
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and the accounting requirements of real estate organizations
  • Fundamental understanding of US GAAP and or experience in partnership taxation concept
  • Strong organization, leadership, coordination, planning, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong management abilities with prior experience managing and training junior level employees and support staff
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and general ability to effectively communicate with staff and others
  • Strong software skills including financial systems like MRI or other integrated accounting and property management systems, MS Office (Excel and Word primarily) and ability to clearly present information or analysis in Excel
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines consistently and have ability to prioritize and multitask in meeting said deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable, responsible, proactive, and detailed oriented
  • Problem solver (thinker not mechanical) and effective communicator
  • Self-starter
  • Learns quickly and easily
