Job Description

Title: Accounting Shared Services Manager
Location: Birmingham, AL
Salary: $65-80K

Our client in Birmingham is looking for an experienced Accounting Manager in Payroll and Accounts Payable. This role will be critical to the success of the company as you will in charge of helping build and develop their AP department. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership skills as well as experience leading a team of 5 or more accounting staff.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Manages accounting functions including maintenance of general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and project accounting; ensures accuracy and timeliness.
  • Develops, implements and maintains systems, procedures and policies, including accounts payable functions to ensure adherence to company guidelines.
  • Prepares and recommends operating and personnel budgets for approval. Monitors spending for adherence to budget, recommends variances as necessary.
  • Helps develop systems to process payroll account transactions (e.g. salaries, benefits, garnishments, deductions, taxes and third-party payments)
  • Maintains payroll information by designing systems; directing the collection, calculation, and entering of data.
  • Updates payroll records by reviewing and approving changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, and job titles, and department/ division transfers.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.


Requirements:

  • Bachelors in Accounting or Finance or Business related field
  • 2-5 yrs. of accounting management experience, AP and Payroll is a plus
  • Experience building an accounting department is highly desired
  • Ability to mentor and coach a team
