Vaco is retained on a search for an Assistant Corporate Controller for a growing, publicly traded corporation that is headquartered in Richmond, VA.

This is a newly created position that will manage a small accounting team, report to the Corporate Controller, and work closely with Divisional Controllers and the Director of Internal Audit. The position will also work with the CEO, CFO, VP of Administration, and Director of IT here in Richmond.

This is a unique opportunity to work in a broad, well-rounded position with a large national company that has a small company feel and a fun, collaborative culture.

The target salary range is $100-$125k along with a target bonus potential based on company and personal performance.

Primary responsibilities include assisting the Corporate Controller in monthly, quarterly and annual transaction and analytical controls, closing and reporting processes and other corporate financial activities. This position is very "hands on" which requires a detail oriented personality, but also the ability to see the big picture and provide analytical insight to the business results.

Additional responsibilities:

    • Supervise and perform day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, A/P, A/R, fixed assets, payroll accounting, stock-based compensation reporting and taxes.
    • Supervise monthly, quarterly and annual close processes, including account reconciliations, journal entry review, and maintenance of the close calendar.
    • Assist in the preparation and review of corporate accounting policies and procedures.
    • Participate in preparation of annual reporting in support of consolidated financials, including comprehensive notes to the audited financial statements. (All SEC filings - EDGAR, XBRL, etc)
    • Participate and assist in monthly accounting consolidation process as needed.
    • Conduct operational and financial analysis. Perform sales, margin and other analytics as needed.
    • Manage and mentor the accounts payable shared services function. Ensure that sales and use taxes, 1099s, and property taxes, are filed properly and timely.
    • Assist in acquisitions, integrations and system implementations as needed
    • Participate in cross company initiatives, work closely with divisional finance teams.
    • Participate in other ad hoc projects to support management reporting requirements and audit needs.
    • Maintains travel and expense reporting system
    • Oversee operating cash management and ABL borrowing and reporting processes with banks.
    • Oversee management of financial ERP system along with maintenance of the general ledger chart of accounts and closing processes.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelors in Accounting, Finance or related field. CPA strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in public accounting and/or large corporate accounting
  • 2+ years of management experience and ability to mentor and develop associates
  • Strong technical accounting, SEC financial reporting and analysis skills
  • Ability to effectively partner with other department heads and executive leadership
