Role Summary:

Our client is seeking an Associate Director to be a leader in the established corporate accounting and financial reporting team. In this role reporting to the Sr. Director, Accounting, you will support the strategic planning and direction setting of the corporate accounting function, translating plans into operational realities. Your leadership will have a direct impact on the success of the global accounting teams, ensuring global compliance and execution of the accounting close processes. You will be instrumental in driving automation, partnering with cross-functional stakeholders. In this role, you will also partner with the Accounting Leadership team to drive the development of a plan and roadmap to reduce the time to close the books to provide actionable reporting to business partners. To be truly successful in this role, you will bring your experience in technical and operational accounting to ensure compliance in several key financial reporting processes. The ideal candidate has worked for a fast-growing large biotechnology and/or manufacturing company in a similar capacity, has worked for one of the Big 4 accounting firms and has an active CPA license.

Responsibilities

  • Create a vision and execution plan to drive efficiency and scalability in the financial close process; reducing the days to close the books to provide actionable reporting to business partners
  • Oversee, lead and partner with your team and other functions to execute the financial close process, including timely and accurate review, approval of month-end and accounting transactions
  • Actively participate with cross-functional colleagues in driving the Finance Systems roadmap, appropriately prioritizing initiatives and helping to ensure automated solutions are implemented effectively
  • Partner with members of the Accounting project governance team to automate manual process using our financial systems and engineer updated business processes and controls, including the global financial close process, financial statement reporting, and equity. Develop efficient processes and implement systems scalable for growth.
  • Oversee the underlying assumptions used to support significant accounting estimates, ensuring the accuracy and adequacy of various liabilities, including accrued expenses, accrued compensation (VCP, PSU, Deferred Compensation, Medical Self-funding) and related expenses, and other liabilities.
  • Interact with the CAO, VP, Tax, VP, Finance and Sr. Directors, Accounting and other Finance team leaders to evaluate, recommend and implement new financial accounting policies, procedures and controls.
  • Lead an experienced accounting team with the demonstrated ability to coach and develop team members to their fullest potential.
  • Lead the external audit to ensure timely completion of audit requests and provide subject matter expertise on audit issues raised.
  • Oversee the budgeting and forecasting of stock-based compensation expense and share count, including review and approval of key assumptions used by preparer.
  • Monitor all aspects of the balance sheet, ensuring proper presentation of balances in accordance with the Company's accounting methodology and manual.
  • Ensure inventory is valued and presented properly in the financial statements through partnership with the cost accounting team.
  • Maintain strong business partnerships with key counterparts including, FP&A, SEC Reporting, Tax, Internal Audit Treasury, Shared Services, GIS, Supply Chain, Stock Administration, HR, Operations
  • Establish, maintain, and ensure compliance with all Sarbanes-Oxley ("SOX") documentation and requirements. Act as a key process owner on internal controls and business processes. Ensure accuracy of balances recorded in accordance with U.S. GAAP.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Active CPA license; Master's Degree a plus.
  • Minimum of 12 years progressively responsible accounting and finance experience, including 3 years in a management capacity. Big 4 public accounting firm experience required.
  • Biotechnology and manufacturing industries accounting experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a high functioning team, mentoring and supporting professionals in attaining career aspirations

  • Strong knowledge and demonstrated ability to develop global policies and internal controls
