We are currently assisting a reputable private company in the construction industry with its search for a Chief Operations Officer.

The company is in the Richmond, VA area and has been in business for 30+ years. This position will report to the CEO, manage a large team including several directors and managers, and work with all departments across the company.


  • Work with the CEO in setting and driving organizational vision, operational strategy, and hiring needs
  • Translate operational strategy into actionable goals for performance and growth
  • Ensure effective recruiting, onboarding, professional development, performance management, and retention
  • Adhere to Company, federal, state, and local business requirements, ensuring compliance and initiating action when necessary
  • Analyze and lead internal operations, identify areas of improved process efficiencies, and implement strategies, policies, procedures, and organizational structure for operating divisions
  • Develop and measure actionable business strategies and plans that ensure alignment with short-term and long-term goals and objectives and overall profit and growth targets; developed with other senior executives
  • Maintain and build trusted relationships with key customers, clients, partners, and stakeholders
  • Develop responsive strategies to industry trends and business competition
  • Assist in development and securing of new business; build customer relationships; direct entry into new markets consistent with Company strategy
  • Review annual budgets for operating divisions
  • Monitor and analyze operating results of the Company relative to established objectives and ensure corporate performance is satisfactorily maintained


  • Bachelor s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field
  • Fifteen years of progressively responsible experience in construction industry, including estimating, project management, scheduling and cost control and employee relations
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand technical and statistical data, interpret construction drawings and specifications, and legal documents
  • Leadership skills, with unwavering resolve and integrity
  • Solid grasp of data analysis and performance metrics
  • Understanding of advanced business planning and regulatory issues
