Job Description

Our Client is looking for a Communications Manager in Memphis, TN. This person will write and/or edit content for the website, blog, newsletters and other communications and proofs manuals, documents and publications. Assists the director of communications with national public relations efforts and guides chapters with local PR efforts, including serving as liaison with the chapter VPs-PR. Manages the organization's national website, assists with e-newsletters and develops social media strategy. The position is based at the headquarters office in Memphis, Tennessee.


  • Proofread publications, emails, manuals, marketing materials, convention/event handouts and other documents
  • Draft content for website, and other publications as directed


  • Oversee public relations
  • Train the vice presidents of public relations (VPs-PR) through webinars and presentations at national events
  • Update the VP-PR Manual and other resources as needed
  • Serve as the editor of the monthly Leader newsletter that goes to all council officers, CAB and house corporation members
  • Write VP-PR-specific content for the monthly Leader newsletter including identifying and writing VP-PR spotlights
  • Provide resources such as press release templates to VPs-PR
  • Facilitate conversations in the VP-PR Facebook group when necessary
  • Receive and organize photo submissions from collegiate chapters
  • Grade collegiate public relations reports

Alumnae Chapters

  • Work with senior alumnae chapter manager to provide resources and guidance as needed
  • Work with senior alumnae chapter manager to update Alumnae PR Manual as needed
  • Work with senior alumnae chapter manager to set up AC Insider bimonthly

National Public Relations

  • Work with the director of communications on developing plans and carrying out public relations efforts for the sorority
  • Serve as a member of the crisis team on any crisis communications issues, including monitoring traditional news outlets and social media
  • Compose press releases with the assistance and direction of the director of communications
  • Distribute press releases to members, the media and other audiences
  • Monitor mentions of the company daily
  • Create weekly reports for staff and quarterly media updates for the National Council
  • Monitor email daily; save submissions to communications SharePoint


  • Work with communications coordinator to develop social media strategy and campaigns for sorority, foundation, member education and special initiatives
  • Email/message VPs-PR when chapter social media content does not align with the company values
  • Work with alumnae NLT on ideas for alumnae engagement
  • Work with communications coordinator to review social media analytics weekly


  • Write and edit e-newsletter and email blast content as directed
  • Work with communications coordinator to build and send e-newsletters
  • Work with communications coordinator to review e-newsletter analytics monthly


National Website

  • Write and edit blog posts, and seek contributing blog writers
  • Work with director of communications to update content on the national website as needed
  • Manage regular website edits
  • Post press releases, job postings and weekly blogs
  • Serve as liaison with website vendor
  • Review website analytics monthly

Chapter Websites

  • Create and maintain new chapter websites; update information on HQ-provided pages
  • Work with IT manager to communicate needs and issues to GIN System staff
  • Communicate with chapters about website content and maintenance


  • Assist with the development of campaigns to promote the Confidence Coalition, International Girls Day and International Women's Friendship Month
  • Assist with the development of campaigns to promote philanthropies, member education practices and initiatives
  • Facilitate in-person training for traveling consultants, other staff and VPs-PR on the organization's communications standards
  • Work with director of communications to write and/or edit copy for various publications, mass emails, letters and other communication pieces
  • Work with other departments to ensure communications needs are being met
  • Additional special projects as assigned


  • 2-5 years of experience
  • Strong writing and editing skills a must
  • Knowledge of AP Style
  • Expertise in key digital media disciplines/tools with an understanding of integrated media campaigns and social media
  • Positive attitude

  • Ability to assess office needs
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and strong interpersonal skills

  • Adobe InDesign knowledge and basic graphic design skills a plus

  • Ability to travel occasionally for national conferences
  • Understanding of fraternity/sorority organizations a plus
