Job Description

Vaco Atlanta is assisting a real estate firm with finding a Controller to lead all accounting and reporting activities. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to take the next step into Controllership. Great company culture, benefits, and ability to learn and grow. Salary is between $110,000-$130,000.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
:

  • Directs the preparation of all financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, reports to owners, and reports for government regulatory agencies including HUD, USDA, etc.
  • Oversees budget preparation and general ledger.
  • Completes corporate budget annually; prepares corporate financials monthly.
  • Coordinates audits and responds to audit inquiries.
  • Works with CPA firms that prepare tax returns and annual financial statements.
  • Manage all tax related responsibilities and manage the relationship to ensure the timeliness of all tax filings.
  • Set policies and procedures that ensure internal controls are met and follow GAAP.
  • Assists with property/liability insurance, certificates of coverage, etc., when needed.
  • Reviews reports to analyze budgeted expenses against final totals and suggests methods of improvement as appropriate.
  • Studies long-range economic trends and projects company prospects for future growth, opportunities for acquisitions or expansion. Forecasts short-range and long-range cash requirements and obligations as a basis for maintaining adequate funds.
  • Assures protection for the assets of the business through internal control, internal auditing, and ensuring proper insurance coverage.
  • Regularly reviews entries to general and statistical ledgers to ensure accuracy and compliance with established accounting principles and procedures. Prepares general and statistical ledger entries.
  • Monitors established internal controls to ensure proper compliance.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, or finance required; Master's degree in accounting or business administration is preferred
  • CPA designation strongly preferred.
  • Eight to ten years of experience in financial management with increasing responsibilities preferred preferably in real estate or related field.
  • Real Estate knowledge a must.
  • Knowledge of HUD, mortgage company regulations, and tax credit lenders strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles required.
  • Knowledge of database and accounting computer application systems.
  • Ability to supervise a team of accountants and accounting associates
  • Excellent analytical skills required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Good time management skills. Ability to multitask, prioritize and flexibility to adjust work priorities as necessary.
  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and retention skills required.
  • Must be detail-oriented, accurate and able to handle a high volume of financial transactions/responsibilities while managing a group of people with different personalities, strengths, and opportunities
  • Superior team building, problem solving and communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and ability to learn other software as needed; accurate typing skills; ability to proof and correct work before finalized.
