DevOps Engineer

Immediate need for a DevOps Engineer is to build & maintain critical systems while being THE point person for troubleshooting, monitoring, and resolving issues in an always-up / always-available [dev] environment.

This role will be essential in creating / configuring the necessary tools to deploy, monitor, and automate our processes that streamline development, while understanding that the process cannot impede progress.

In addition to spearheading the development and monitoring of essential business tools and system applications, the DevOps Engineer will help us architect, execute, and support a migration of our server infrastructure to Amazon Web Services.

You will build AWS services that support our LAMP stack applications including customer facing sales sites/internal tools with speed and redundancy in mind. We need a forward-thinker, someone that will research & recommend new and unutilized technologies, and take advantage of the extensive services Amazon offers.

You will be on the front lines for monitoring and troubleshooting our critical systems in an always-up/always-available environment; you will be our go-to person in the event of system failures or outages.

You will be proactive in ensuring all our applications and servers are operating at optimal performance while also managing the best use of system resources.

You will be working collaboratively with a cohesive team of developers that are dedicated to creating solutions with a holistic view of our organization and getting important stuff done.

Primary Duties:

  • Install and maintain mission critical server software including Linux and MySQL.
  • Ensure the integrity, continuity, operations, and maintenance of infrastructure servers/storage.
  • Help define and administer network authentication and security.
  • Provide regular reporting regarding usage, capacity, resources, problems, changes, and other utilization statistics for servers and storage.
  • Recommend and implement infrastructure changes and projects as needed.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and organization during service interruption incidents.
  • Researching of new technologies/standards to aid in the team's speed of implementation and efficiency
  • Documenting standards and processes for efficiency/repeatability

Target Qualities

The ideal candidate will have the following skills / experience:

  • Strong background in Linux/Unix Administration
  • Experience with automation/configuration management, Docker or equivalent
  • Proficient knowledge of storage infrastructure hardware and software.
  • Ability to use a wide variety of open source technologies and cloud services including AWS
  • Strong experience with MySQL
  • A working understanding of code and script including PHP, Python or similar
  • Ability to manage multiple efforts concurrently.
  • Strong knowledge of emerging technologies and tools.
  • Very strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service
  • Conscious of Security/PCI issues
