Job Description

Overall Responsibility: The Director of Accounts Payable will be fully responsible for the Accounts Payable function of a billion dollar plus national distribution company. This position will work closely with key Finance and Accounting personnel and interact frequently with others in the organization including senior executives.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Have complete ownership of the Accounts Payable function.
  • Manage the day to day functions of two accounts payable teams; Inventory AP and Overhead AP.
  • Ensure that all invoices are being paid within terms.
  • Ensure that all credits related to shortages, pricing, returns and rebates are received timely.
  • Implement process improvements within the Accounts Payable function.
  • Monthly forecasting of disbursements.
  • Work with distribution centers on process improvements related to discrepancies and receiving time lags.
  • Develop and maintain a strong relationship with the supplier community.
  • Lead the Accounts Payable integration and training of acquired companies.
  • Develop and maintain a system of controls and processes that ensure company assets are protected.
  • Lead responsibility for the Accounts Payable area in the annual year-end financial audit.


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of Accounts Payable Management for a multi-location distribution or manufacturing business required.
  • Understanding of inventory processes required
  • Understanding of vendor rebate programs preferred.
  • Have a track record of driving progressive organizational change and effectively driving teams to achieve outstanding results.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable handling large data-sets in excel.
  • Technologically savvy, particularly with Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
