Job Description

Vaco is seeking Human Resources candidates for a Director of Benefits role. This role is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of all health and welfare, as well as retirement and pension, employee benefit plans and programs. The Director of Benefits is an innovator with visionary ideas to scale and ensure competitiveness of our benefits. Takes high level strategy and implements the detailed processes, systems and resources to support. Provides strong analytical and plan expertise for the health, welfare, and retirement programs, including pensions. Ensures plans and programs are in alignment with Company business objectives and support our high-performance culture by attracting, retaining, and rewarding employees. This position ensures that benefits programs are in compliance with all global and country laws and regulations. Benefits responsibilities include medical, dental, vision, retirement plans, short- and long-term disability plans, voluntary and supplemental benefit offerings, onsite and remote wellness programming. This position reports to the Corporate Vice President of Human Resources.

Job Functions/Responsibilities

  • Drive innovation around benefit solutions that align with business objectives to drive shareholder value.
  • Anticipate future benefit needs and have strategies in place to meet the needs of rapidly scaling teams in current and emerging markets.
  • Manages, plans, develops, implements, administers and communicates benefit programs, including all health and welfare and retirement (defined benefit and defined contribution) benefit plans.
  • Manages the overall benefit plan renewal process and recommend go-forward approach by proactively anticipating changes and needs of the marketplace, company, and employees by taking into consideration market research and cost analysis to ensure the benefit program remains competitive and financially sustainable.
  • Oversees internal and external audits and ensures internal compliance standards are met. Researches legislative requirements and ensures compliance of the various employee benefit plans and programs.
  • Lead the annual benefit plan budgeting in close partnership with Finance.
  • Reviews, edits and negotiates vendor contract agreement language, terms and performance guarantees, involving internal and/or external legal counsel as appropriate.
  • Creates and executes written project plans that identify scope, deliverables, tasks, accountabilities and due dates required to ensure successful project completion.
  • Develops, introduces, markets and communicates all benefit program implementations and changes to employees.
  • Responsible for the overall relationship with vendors, brokers and/or consultants.
  • Envisions, conceptualizes, and formulates action plans for process improvements, service delivery enhancements, and cost savings measures.
  • Provides guidance, advice, analysis, and training of HR professionals with respect to applicable benefit plans.
  • Recognized subject matter expert and provides consultation regarding complex benefit issues
  • Provides consultation on various workforce actions as needed from time to time.
  • Responsible for managing a Senior Benefits Analyst and Benefits Administrator, including employee coaching, development, performance management and staffing.


  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting/Finance or HH
  • Preferred CEBS or other benefit certification
  • 10+ years' experience in a benefit leadership position with at least 5 managing the full scope function (health, welfare, pension and 401k) including program modeling, design, implementation, administration and employee support
  • Understanding of global benefits practices and laws, particularly in North America and Mexico
  • Previous experience in an automated benefits environment required.
  • Expert knowledge of federal and state regulations that govern benefit plans and leave management preferred; ERISA required
  • Experience working in fast-paced, rapidly changing technology-driven environment as a critical member of the leadership team in helping a business scale
  • Experience demonstrating the right balance of speed/flexibility with process/compliance with progressive technology organizations that have achieved significant scale and global reach
  • Strong analytical competence, including modeling and scenario planning
  • Experience with ADP preferred
  • Ability to develop project plans and lead and/or act in key role on strategic projects and initiatives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and develop positive working relationships with both internal and external vendors, brokers/consultants, and customers.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, set priorities, organize, implement and administer effectively in all areas of accountability.
  • Demonstrated maturity in influencing leaders and employees at all levels across the organization while maintaining confidentiality of all employee data.
  • Capable of effectively managing multiple, sometimes conflicting, projects.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office, including spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Global experience highly preferred.
