JOB SUMMARY
The Systems Engineer (SE) is responsible for effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of infrastructure systems hardware and software and ensures that all system hardware, operating systems, and related procedures adhere to Company standards as set by IT Leadership. The SE participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure team.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Assist project teams with technical design and remediation of issues during the project life-cycle, which includes but not limited to: understanding the requirements of the project, technical analysis and design, implementation of new infrastructure, creating technical documentation, establishing standard operating procedures (SOPs), and a successful knowledge transfer.
  • Involved in all aspects of server maintenance for the company's private cloud environment.
  • Engineering of solutions for various project and operational needs.
  • Install new and/or upgrade existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
  • Install and configure systems to meet requirements from business units while adhering to departmental documentation standards.
  • Develop and maintain procedural documentation for installation, configuration, and operational support of infrastructure systems.
  • Develop and maintain Active Directory and GPO structures in accordance with industry best practices.
  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated, approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources with greatest efficiency and provide economies of scale.
  • Administration of Microsoft Office 365 hybrid cloud tenancy, including SSO capabilities with other third party applications, and migration of newly acquired companies and users into the Enterprise O365 domain.
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs.
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
  • Ensure automated backup routines meet SLAs for RPO/RTO as established by system owners and business leadership.
  • Ensure all Windows servers are patched and rebooted at least monthly, and Linux servers at least quarterly. Ensure anti-virus software is up to date on all servers.
  • Serve as the escalation point for service desk issues above Level 2. Investigate, troubleshoot, and liaise with outside parties when necessary.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.

  • Perform regular file and log archival and purge as necessary.
  • Follows all safety policies and procedures; communicates hazards and/or suggests improvements to manager.
  • Performs any other duties as may be deemed appropriate.

  • WORKING CONDITIONS

    Normal office environment, electrical hazards, overtime may be required. Limited travel.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Sitting, standing, walking, occasional lifting greater than 60 lbs., repetitive motion with hands, bending, reaching, finger dexterity, visual acuity.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


  • Bachelor (4-year) degree, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science, or more than six years' hands on systems engineering experience.
  • One or more Microsoft Systems Engineer/Systems Engineer certifications. Additional Security, Linux and VMware certifications highly preferred.
