Job Description

The General Manager serves as a key member of the management team reporting to the company Founders. The person in this role will have broad responsibilities and must excel in a publicly-owned dynamic culture that is seeking a strong manager with the vision to maintain and grow current manufacturing operations. The person in this role will also be involved in the productization of a new technology platform under development, and oversee the company's production, engineering and technical support teams.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

General Management: 65%
Along with the Founders, participate in the management of:

  • Engineering, manufacturing operations and product development.
  • Provide oversight of multi-disciplinary teams including R&D, Engineering, Production and Supply Chain
  • Promote safety and quality by following best practices
  • Provide interpretation, strategic guidance of technologies and methodologies affecting product approvals, development and product compliance, and assess competing technology opportunities & threats
  • Join with internal stakeholders to proactively match and coordinate engineering resources and priorities to deliver necessary customer solutions
  • Develop and implement the strategic technology and engineering direction including Continuous Improvement and innovation efforts
  • Partner to resolve engineering issues and support business plans and communicate regularly with management and appropriate personnel regarding impact of current and pending technologies
  • Select, organize, train, develop, and motivate a strong technical team to assure high level of productivity and engagement, the best use of individual and group capabilities, and appropriate career planning for all team members
  • Assure accuracy, clarity, consistency, and timeliness of all technical information

Program Management: 15%

  • Develop and manage department budgets, monitor approved budgets and spend deviations, and initiate corrective actions to control costs
  • Report on status of product and technical performance, planning efforts, and technical business development
  • Understand compliance criteria for government and industry standards (e.g CE, UL, ISO, EPA, RoHS, FDA, AS9100, TS, etc.) and support the RFQ process, as appropriate
  • Build and sustain a process throughout the product lifecycle to ensure specifications, regulations and expectations are met and exceeded

Business Development/Sales: 15%

  • Work in a team-based environment to meet with customers/partners in sales, manufacturing, supply chain, and product management to ensure resources are aligned to effectively support business strategies and meet the business plan for new technologies and markets
  • Partner with Sales and Marketing to ensure customer expectations are met and exceeded
  • Lead identification of new partnerships and alliances in industry and academia to acquire new technology
  • Apply ideas from other industries, situations, and companies for growth and market expansion

Portfolio Governance: 5%

Along with the CTO:

  • participate in the creation and maintenance of Technology roadmaps that integrate New Product Development (NPD) and sustaining engineering activities, leverage existing technologies, incorporates advanced technology into new designs and applications, and maximizes R&D investment return
  • Collaborate to create and leverage annual, strategic business plans that support Technology and Marketing product roadmaps to improve market share and revenue

Approximately 10-15% domestic and international travel

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of relevant manufacturing experience in multiple industries with a high level of expertise with multiple engineering technologies
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing and/or engineering leadership including CapEx, OpEx budgeting and departmental P&L accountability, and Intellectual Property oversight
  • Must have history of impeccable integrity, ethics, and gaining trust
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage staff and develop/lead multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience/understanding of multiple CAD, 3D Design, and Product Data Management (PDM) applications
  • High degree of proficiency in MS Office products
  • Experience should include roles in developing, deploying, and managing process and applications
  • Financial/Business acumen

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's degree or commensurate experience in Manufacturing or Engineering management

• Demonstrated experience leading engineering through restructuring efforts in small organizations

• Understanding of manufacturing bills and cost models

• Experience preparing & reviewing quotations for complex projects
