Human Resources and Payroll Director - Leading Real Estate Co - Join a Winning Team! - Norfolk, VA - Pay to $100K

Role and Responsibilities:

A leading real estate company is seeking a Human Resources and Payroll Director to join its Norfolk corporate team.

This is a great opportunity for a well-rounded HR and payroll leader to join an exceptional management team in warm and stable, but growing office environment.

The HR/payroll director will act as a strategic business partner to executive management, head up all human resources activity, and lead the payroll department. This role will manage a team of 6-8, and take a hands-on approach in all areas of HR compliance, talent acquisition and development, benefits administration, and payroll processing.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Build and develop a high-performing HR and Payroll team.
  • Act as strategic business partner for executive management team.
  • Create and manage HR and payroll budgets, provide analytical reports for strategic decision making.
  • Manage talent acquisition process, including sourcing, testing, interviewing, hiring and onboarding.
  • Keep job descriptions up-to-date, accurate and compliant with relevant federal, state and local laws for all positions.
  • Develop training and performance management program that ensures all employees are familiar with their job responsibilities.
  • Create and updates compensation strategy through market analysis and pay surveys.
  • Handle investigation and resolution of employee issues, concerns and conflicts.
  • Ensure all employment practices comply with federal, state and local regulations.
  • Supervision of the payroll, benefits, and HR department.
  • Develop methods/procedures to ensure compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations.
  • Enhance the payroll and HR departments including the implementation of new or updated software, payroll manuals, policies and procedures, and process improvements.
  • Ensure best use of Payroll/HRIS system (ADP Workforce Now).
  • Review and approve payroll funding requests, imports and journal entries.
  • Annual preparation of HR and payroll budgets for multiple companies.
  • Analyze and review payroll reports related to quarter and year-end processing including quarterly and annual tax returns, W-2's, Form 1095's (ACA).
  • Research and resolve IRS or state payroll tax issues which may include written responses to tax agencies, and support internal and external audit requests.
  • Prepare statistical reports on employee pay, commissions and bonuses, vacation, sick time, disability and workers compensation leave, and taxes/withholdings.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in HR or similar business function, with master's degree and HR certifications highly preferred.
  • 6+ years of recent and concentrated human resources and payroll leadership experience.
  • Advanced computer skills with strong experience with an HRIS and ADP Workforce Now, and super Excel skills are a must.
  • Strong experience in a multi-entity environment, with real estate industry highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of compensation strategy, performance management, employee relations, safety practices and talent acquisition, and the ability to apply this information in a manner that is compliant with relevant employment law.
  • Experience with creating a culture of engagement, collaboration, and teamwork.
  • Strong budgeting and strategic planning experience.
  • Expert knowledge of HR and payroll compliance including ACA, FMLA, and Payroll taxes and regulations and compliance.
  • Exceptional communication skills including proven ability to lead and mentor a team and a strong internal customer service focus.
  • Ability and desire to multi-task and meet tight deadlines.
