Junior Fixed Asset Accountant
Suffolk, VA
$50,000-$55,000, direct hire opportunity

Currently looking for an individual with 1-3 years of experience in accounting, particularly focused in on fixed assets. This position is with a manufacturing company located in Suffolk, VA. This is a great opportunity to learn and grow within a wonderful company. Bachelor's in accounting is required, CPA eligible is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Track and maintain fixed asset ledger by coordinating with IT and Accounts Payable.
  • Prepare schedules for reporting of fixed assets and capital projects.
  • Work closely with managers who oversee capital projects.
  • Compose journal entries.
  • Assist with property insurance claims
  • Oversee automobile & semi-trailer licensing/tagging/insurance coverage, and maintain vehicle & trailer title files.
  • Assist with the preparation of other reports provided to management.
  • Assist with year-end audits.
  • Assist with preparation of month-end financial statements, cash flow statements, budgets.
  • Prepare annual property tax filings, verify accuracy of property tax notices and approve for payment.
  • Prepare quarterly motor fuel tax filings, file annual UCR motor carrier return, file IRP license plate reports, file annual IFTA license. IRS Form 2290 - Heavy Vehicle Highway Use Tax Return, annually, and as new semi-trucks are added.
  • Assists accounting department with accounting compliance and government regulations.
  • Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices.
  • Assist with other projects as needed.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma required, college degree in accounting preferred
  • Must be well organized and a self-starter
  • Must be able to follow standard filing procedures
  • Detail oriented, professional attitude, reliable
  • Proficient in Excel and Word
  • Possess strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong problem solving skills, basic accounting principles knowledge, documentation skills, research and resolution skills, data analysis and multi-tasking skills
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable accounts payable/general ledger systems and procedures, financial chart of accounts and corporate procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to interact with employees and vendors in a professional manner
  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
