Job Description

Vaco has a full-time role in North Houston for a Manager of IT Operations to join their team. The Manager of IT Operations role involves hands on system administration (AS400), as well as providing direction to a team of internal and external system administrators, operations staff and overseeing the daily activities of system operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for day to day operations of the mission critical IBM i infrastructure
  • Works with various stakeholders to support the development and implementation of an HA and DR strategy for mission critical applications
  • Work with Senior IT Leadership to implement standards, procedures and processes for the operations group.
  • Plans and manages the support of new technologies, data center performance and reliability
  • Supports the definition and negotiation of service level agreements for data center operations
  • Provides inputs and recommendations regarding business continuance issues and improvements to the operations and processes supported.
  • Participates in IT strategy planning activities, bringing a current knowledge and future vision of infrastructure technology and systems and best practices (e.g. ITIL) as related to the needs of the business.
  • Manages communication, notification and escalation during system outage.
  • Delivers stable, reliable, cost effective infrastructure to support applications and services
  • Works with Senior IT Leadership to develops SLAs & KPIs to ensure IT operation excellence
  • Support a well-coordinated change management process that minimizes down-time.
  • Manages vendors in the IT Infrastructure space to ensure high service levels.
  • Establishes and maintains a rigorous process to ensure systems and services are up-to-date, well managed and are secure.
  • Supports the selection and monitoring of contractual agreements for hardware, software and IT services for the enterprise.
  • Manages the day to day activities of the IT Operations team.
  • Responsible for hiring, firing, performance appraisals, and pay reviews.

Requirements:

  • 4 years' experience with at least one year of supervisory/lead responsibility.
  • Be aware of emerging technologies and industry trends and have ability to leverage them in solution design and support initiatives
  • Good understanding of governance framework (roles and responsibility, escalation and communication process, handoffs and control points).
  • Experience with IBM i system administration required. Hands on AS400 required.
  • Experience in change and release management required.
  • Prior experience managing a cloud-based infrastructure and data center relationships preferred
