Job Description


Our client is looking for a Master Planner in Torrington, CT. This role is designed to ensure that adequate resources are available and optimized based upon current and forecasted demand and inventory replenishment requirements. This includes but not limited to exploring the gross requirements through MRP to create the Material Plan and Detailed Capacity Plan in order to comply with required Service Levels, building the production schedule using the tools of the MRP Capacity Planning, Planning Bills of Material and Firm Planned Orders to validate plans and communicate the master schedule. The Demand Planner and Scheduler must possess an understanding of all of the materials and processes that contribute to the marketing, design, sales, manufacture and distribution of the products that they will be scheduling. The Global S&OP Manager must also be capable of developing a working line of communication with people from all areas and all levels of the organization that have an effect on or are affected by the master schedule. The Global S&OP Manager will build the production schedule for all departments within North America and the master schedule for the production and packing operations in Asia and Europe.

Responsibilities:
  • Develops a working knowledge of the company's products and process to ensure optimal schedule stability and load leveling.
  • Creates and updates the daily, weekly and monthly master schedule that satisfies customer demand with optimum inventory levels and resource utilization. Ensures that the master schedule can be used for detailed material and capacity planning as well as financial planning.
  • Where applicable, responsible to hand over a feasible master schedule plan to the local factory planner for execution.
  • Compile, analyze, and develop the Production Schedule for the Torrington Plants. Match schedule to meet demand, achieve goals for inventory levels and customer service.
  • Anticipate supply problems and implement resolution working jointly with the plants, customer service and the regional demand control teams.
  • Provide alternatives and costs to any change within the time fence to the fixed production schedules based on changes in demand or expedite orders as well as seek approvals. Manage costs in autonomy within the agreed budget.
  • Chairs the weekly master scheduling meeting for the purpose of identifying, negotiating and resolving conflicts with respect to material and capacity availability and order promising.
  • Provide alternatives and scenarios with clear assumptions and costs in case demand is higher than supply and prioritize production in line with the sales/customer priorities agreed with the demand control team.
  • Seeks ways to reduce internal lead times as well as lead times to customers through performance improvement projects working directly with the plant and with the sales teams.
  • Works with product team leader(s) to identify critical "bottleneck" operations or resources and determine the capacities for each resource.
  • Acts as single point of contact with the demand control team to determine future work plan based upon demand forecast, order trends and abnormal demands.
  • In conjunction with the Senior Global S&OP Manager and within the S&OP process itself, develops and maintains the rules of engagement for demand control, including master scheduling policy. Assists in developing and implementing improvements to production scheduling functions.
  • Assess risks and gaps within the schedule and communicate appropriately the risks within the organization.
  • Co-ordinate the aggregation of planned production via planning bills and link it to the overall supply plan and IBP process, highlighting differences in volume and costs versus the agreed IBP plans.
  • Creates and maintains the critical resource file and load profiles for each resource in the rough-cut capacity planning system of ERP. (not sure if this applies to E1 - will need to validate)
  • Summarizes daily and weekly master schedules for released and firm planned orders and compares these to the production plan to insure consistency.
  • Perform inventory tracking, reporting, troubleshooting, and correcting to impact plant Finished Product, WIP, Ingredient, and Packaging inventory accuracy. Strive for 100% physical and system match.
  • Control inventory targets approved by management to guarantee the right coverage in order to avoid lost sales or over stock situations
  • Respond in a timely manner to action messages generated by the master scheduling software.
  • Assuring that no master scheduled item will have a released or firm planned order date less than the current date.
  • With direction from the Senior Global S&OP Manager and finance is responsible for the inventory levels for each product line under their control.
  • Creation of a financial summary of over planned and or safety sock inventories to ensure that they are within budget.
  • Coordinate with the Master Data Control Analysts all maintenance of all scheduling parameters such as, manufacturing calendar, lot sizes, safety stocks, delivery times, and order file data for all master scheduled items.
  • Develop reporting tools that use volume and performance analyses to support financial and operational business decisions


Skills/Qualifications desired:
  • BA degree in Business, Statistical Analysis, Engineering or other related field is preferred
  • Certification in Production and Inventory Management through the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) preferred.
  • Training classes to include Master Scheduling, Just-in-Time, Sales and Operations Planning, Demand Management and Forecasting, Demand Flow Techniques, Lean Manufacturing, etc.
  • 3+ years of plant experience with products or processes that will be scheduled.
  • Proficient in JDE Enterprise One a plus
  • Proficient in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data extraction).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, decision making, and presentation skills preferred. Strong interpersonal skills are also essential to effectively interact with all teams, areas and levels of business affecting the forecast process. Good facilitation skills are required.
  • Ability to understand facilities, production lines and flow of materials and communicate to the organization bottlenecks and options to increase output and customer satisfaction.
