Under the supervision of the Denials and Appeals Manager, the Denial and Appeals Specialist is responsible for timely and accurate resolution of denied insurance claims. The Denial and Appeals Specialist will review all pertinent information such as insurance carrier explanation of benefits, insurance carrier denial letters and electronic remits to ensure denials are worked in a timely manner and appeals for the denied claims are submitted appropriately.

Position Requirements

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent from a recognized State or Federal accrediting organization.
Minimum of 1-2 years patient accounting experience in healthcare environment.
Hospital or professional billing experience preferred.
Excellent phone etiquette and internal/external customer service skills required. The competence is further demonstrated by knowledge of insurance regulations, payment guidelines and polices and the ability to communicate and work with payers to get accounts paid timely and accurately.
Must be able to type, follow directions and complete assigned tasks within given deadlines.

Preferred Requirements

Medical terminology, knowledge of insurance and reimbursement procedures preferred.
Business courses such as medical terminology, accounting, finance, cash applications, typing, word processing and knowledge of billing requirements for insurance companies preferred.
Typing, Excel and Data Entry
