Job Description

Responsibilities include the following:
  • Review and resolution of critical network performance and functionality problems, and present timely updates to management. Execute and enforce operational plans, policies and procedures to ensure high availability, supportability and manageability of data and telecommunication services. Ensure that all IT equipment complies with industry standards. Respond to work orders assigned by the support center. Repair, if possible, or provide alternative solution(s) to resolving the given problem. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of work order progress in the help desk database. Provide hands-on technical support for all aspects of daily operations of the university voice and data network infrastructure.
  • Participate in the development, planning and implementation of campus and World Wide University infrastructure projects. Develop data network designs, strategies and sound network management practices in support of operational objectives. All planning must consider impact on other areas of the campus and University network infrastructure and the desktop environment. Perform Installation, maintenance, and support activities for large-scale local and wide area data and telecommunication services.
  • Collaborate and maintain open communication with other IT teams to provide consulting, problem determination and resolution, system installation and configuration, application support, and needs analysis to support our customers.
  • Attend meetings and briefings related to computing support. Participate in committees and task forces as assigned. Collaborate with University and other Campus Information Technology departments in the development of strategic and tactical plans.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field
  • At least three years of experience with the management and operation of systems and networks (voice, video, and data).
  • Ability to plan, and implement tasks in a complex university environment.
  • Strong Customer Service skills and positive attitude.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. Ability to communicate with various levels of users, technical and non-technical.
  • Must maintain a positive, professional image.
  • Ability to understand and document processes and procedures
  • Experience with telecommunications
  • Working knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in Avaya IP telephony system administration.
  • Working knowledge of ACD, PBX, and other related telecommunications systems.
  • Working knowledge of network management, network security, and network test equipment.
  • Working knowledge of QoS, E911, call routing, and dial plans.
  • Working knowledge of local and wide area communication technologies.
  • Knowledge IPv6 and BGP
  • Knowledge of structured wiring standards, codes, policies, and procedures in copper and fiber optic cabled environments
  • Ability to collect the appropriate information from the user to expedite the resolution the problem. Demonstrate good judgment in investigating and escalating problems.
  • Solid understanding of the business needs of the university and the needs of the students.
  • Excellent knowledge of information technology trends and practices primarily in networking, telecommunications and server administration.
  • Consistently show ability to recognize and deal with priorities. Recognize and perform duties that need to be performed.
  • Ability to keep up with the pace of change in technology.
