Job Description



Under general supervision, provides system-level technical support of multi-user telecommunications system hardware and software, to include installation, analysis, operation, maintenance, training, and problem resolution. Analyzes and troubleshoots established network systems. Working knowledge of network security, with the ability to secure network vulnerabilities as well as a good understanding of network traffic and traffic shaping technology. Experience with Enterasys Network appliances and VoIP is a plus.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyzes management needs regarding use of integrated telecommunications equipment, operations, and processes.

  • Investigates, plans, implements, and tests telecommunications software.

  • Prepares documentation of systems and user applications.

  • Creates and tests CAT 3, CAT 5 and CAT 6 cables.

  • Participates in budget planning, implementation, and monitoring for purchase and maintenance of hardware and software.

  • Handles system and user needs and problems; identifies problems and effects corrections.

  • Maintains current of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.

  • Analyzes and resolves technical problems for established networks.

  • Plans, tests, recommends, and installs network, file servers and workstation hardware and software, and network security tools.

  • Assists in the maintenance of system records and logs.

  • Assists creating and maintain area network documentation and diagrams, training, and guidance to computing system users and technical staff.

  • Attends training for professional development.

  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.

  • Ability to analyze operational requirements and assess telecommunications technology and capacity requirements.

  • Ability to implement, test, troubleshoot, and maintain telecommunications software.

  • Ability to provide telecommunications systems training and user support.

  • Ability to develop and write systems and applications documentation and guides for users.

  • Knowledge of procurement rules and regulations.

  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in computer networking.

  • Ability to design and install of high-speed data networks.

  • Knowledge of multi-mode and single mode fiber.

  • Ability to maintain and troubleshoot computer network hardware, software, and peripherals.

  • Knowledge of available computing and/or network hardware and peripheral equipment.

  • Ability to determine computer problems and to coordinate hardware and/or software solutions.

  • Ability to develop systems solutions for operational problems.

  • Ability to develop and write systems and applications documentation and guides for users.

  • Knowledge of a range of computer networking systems and languages.

  • Knowledge of network monitoring tools.
