Job Description


A mid-level management position within oncology service line reporting to the Director, Oncology Operations. This position is responsible for directing the overall operations of the assigned oncology practice site(s). The position effectively assists the Director, Oncology Operations by managing daily site operations to maximize quality of oncology services and provide exceptional customer care. Overall responsibilities include, monitoring volume to ensure that the site(s) will deliver on its budgeted growth and revenue commitments, and assumes full responsibility for the execution of the strategic plan for the assigned site(s).


Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Collaborates with the Associate Director and Director, Oncology Services on organizational business issues, communicates appropriate messages, and supports and drives corporate initiatives.

Collaborates with other oncology service line and executive leaders on problems related to clinical and business operations. Recommends changes in policies to carry out objectives more effectively.

Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care and services to best meet the needs of the customers and their families.

Supports, adheres to, and communicates policies, procedures, protocols, and objectives. Ensures their adequate messaging, execution, compliance, and update communication to all oncology practice site staff.

Participates in both long term strategic planning and daily operational decision making for oncology practice site(s).

Maintains accountability for daily staffing patterns and appropriate skill mix to support optimal patient flow and superior customer and family experience.

Promotes an environment that fosters two-way communication between those in leadership, physicians, and other staff providing hands-on-care activities.

Assists the Associate Director with annual budgeting process for oncology practice site(s). Participates in monthly financial reviews, including variance analysis and takes accountability for follow-up as warranted.

Executes business plans by assigning accountability to appropriate staff and/or physicians, monitoring progress, making appropriate adjustments, and finding solutions to obstacles.

Continuously identifies and implements ways to increase profitability and maximize efficiency, productivity and resource allocation for oncology practice sites.Analyzes data reports and acts on significant trends affecting overall effectiveness of the oncology practice sites.

Drives improvement efforts through effective staff and provider involvement, project management, and communication.Implements changes and keeps staff and providers up to date with clear and concise communications.

Works with the Director, human resources and other oncology service line leaders to establish targeted goals and growth plans for oncology practice site staff, monitor employee performance, and conduct effective performance evaluation sessions. Assists the Associate Director in developing, implementing, and evaluating employee engagement initiatives.

Regularly documents issues, performs disciplinary/coaching sessions and keeps oncology service line leaders and human resources apprised of significant personnel and operational issues.

Provides business justification for new and replacement positions and strives to hire and retain the highest quality staff.Ensures proper orientation and ongoing training of new and existing staff members. Implements changes and keeps staff up to date with clear and concise communications.

Develops effective working relationships with physicians and a variety of other health care professionals.Ensures excellent customer service levels as measured by the customers and their families, staff, and provider satisfaction surveys.

Exercises sound judgment when dealing with challenging and stressful situations.

Ensures timely submission of reports, performance reviews, accounts payable documentation, and other materials required to support effective site and corporate operations.

Participates in a wide variety of related accountabilities/responsibilities as needed or directed in support of efficient site operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, health care administration, or health-related field.
  • 5 years of progressive management experience overseeing medical group practices, large scope clinical/operational programs or related service lines.
  • Leadership experience utilizing problem-solving methodologies, project management skills, management.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) with current Tennessee license highly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) highly preferred.
  • Clinical experience in an oncology and infusion setting.
  • Master's degree in business or health care administration.
  • Project management and performance improvement process, such as Lean Six Sigma training.
