Job Description

Vaco is working with a client in the Indianapolis area who needs a Payroll Manager on a contract basis.

As a Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the payroll department, tax payments, and filings.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Staying current on payroll tax changes and regulations
  • Analyzing and implementing process and procedural improvements
  • Preparing month-end journal entries and reconcile related balance sheet accounts
  • Reviewing expense reports to ensure compliance with corporate policies
  • Providing reports of salary, wage, and fringe benefit cost projections for the budget preparation process.
  • Responsible for maintaining organized and accurate historical records of payroll and payroll related data including tax records.
  • Reconciling payroll detail to the payroll register and submitting to the Controller on a timely basis after each payroll.
  • Providing data on a regular basis to assist departments outside of HR in various functions.


  • Bachelor's degree preferably in Accounting and/or Finance
  • 5+ years' experience related to payroll
  • American Payroll Association Certified Payroll Professional would be preferred
  • Must have advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be familiar with the taxation/reporting of income earned by resident/nonresident aliens
