Job Description

A fast paced organization in the Birmingham area is searching for a Payroll Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Must adhere and enforce the organizations payroll related policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Experience using SAP and maintaining the 401 k benefits for company.
  • Process weekly, semi-monthly and bi-weekly payroll with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness.
  • Performs a wide variety of record keeping and payroll processing activities, including computing wage and overtime payments, calculating and recording retroactive payments, increases, vacation/sick time accruals, payroll labor allocations and payroll deductions.
  • Process payroll manual checks for outstanding payroll checks, payroll advances, lost/stolen checks, late time sheets, etc
  • Oversee reports and the Master File report (for New Hires only) with supporting documents for: new hire, termination, absentee forms, faculty contracts, permanent changes (address change, pay rate, direct deposit information, tax information, job title, etc.), garnishments, advances, and voluntary deductions.
  • Ensure all payroll documents (original and copies) entered by the payroll clerks are date stamped with correct pay date
  • Payroll Batch Reports - Special Pays for one time payments and flat payments for employees/students setup with an hour rate type, Absence Forms, Retro payments, etc with all supporting documents.
  • Review The Employee Transactions and Totals report for the punches and ensure that all punches and manual time sheets are accurate and approved for processing.
  • Work with payroll clerk in maintaining updated worksheet/log records for Faculty Contracts, Advance Pay, Gift Deductions, and Manual Checks.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience.
  • Must have experience with multi-state payroll
  • Knowledge of payroll principles, practices, regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively act as lead and work as a team member.
  • Strong organization skills, attention to detail and follow through to resolve any outstanding issues.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable related tax laws, regulations and skill in preparing detailed reports.
  • SAP experience a plus
