Job Description


  • Responsible for writing software to implement requirements for enhancements and bug fixes to custom applications, either independently or under the direction of a Software Engineer IV. Works as part of a software team and/or in conjunction with the efforts of other software teams
  • Writes software utilizing a wide variety of industry standard tools and frameworks
  • Reads design and requirements documentation from ERDs, UML diagrams, and written specifications, and implements working software applications based upon the given design
  • Produces high quality work to strict development standards in a fast paced environment
  • Creates and modifies application architecture documentation to meet the needs of the requirements under direction of a Software Engineer IV
  • Participates in training exercises and increasingly challenging work to grow knowledge and skills over time
  • Updates job knowledge by actively researching new technologies and software products, participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining interpersonal networks, and participating in professional organizations
  • Identifies and troubleshoots issues in the production environment for resolution
  • May be required to lead the development efforts of one or more resources on small projects as skill level and aptitude allows

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (candidates must possess these skills to be considered):

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology related track (or equivalent industry experience)
  • 4-6 years experience in Software Development
  • Strong passion for quality software development and the desire to share knowledge and learn from others
  • Positive attitude and sound interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work on several enhancements and bug fixes
  • Experience with implementing custom software based upon design and requirements documentation created by others
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present ideas in a group setting and constructively critique the work of others
  • Demonstrable problem solving and decision making skills
  • Understanding of software development lifecycles and associated development techniques
  • Proficient with Oracle enterprise development technologies (RDBMS, Forms, Reports, PL/SQL)

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS (these items are a plus, but are not required):

  • Object oriented system/database design experience
  • UML design experience (preferably with the IBM/Rational suite)
  • Exposure to the Rational Unified Process
  • Experience with Rich Internet Application (RIA) development using AJAX or Adobe Flex
  • Understanding of architectural design patterns such as DAO, Proxy, ServiceManager, etc.
  • Experience with change management/source control (Subversion, VSS, CVS, Harvest, etc.)
  • Experience with software development in Unix and Windows environments
