As an Accounting Project Manager, you will be responsible for supporting contract and project management. You will be responsible for the accounting operations, facilitation and set-up of projects under contractual agreements.

Other responsibilities of the Project Accountant role include:

  • Accounting for invoicing and expense tracking
  • Supporting accounts payable and payroll
  • Handling timesheets and expense reporting
  • Communicating with staff regarding, but not limited to, the following:
    • Set-up
    • Budgets
    • Billing/invoicing
    • Workflow process
    • Reporting
    • Inquiry development
    • MUST HAVE- PRIOR CIVIL ENGINEERING PROJECT MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE
    • MUST HAVE - EXPERIENCE WITH CITY/STATE/FEDERAL BUDGETS.


The Project Accountant must have strong customer focus, and strong analytical skills with an ability to interpret, reconcile and report findings on large volumes of data.

What you'll be doing:

Support Senior Project Accountant with monthly full cycle accounting needs
Perform financial analysis and reconciliation of project costs vs. budget
Frequent interaction with Project Managers and operations team
Set up and maintain accurate transactions and project data in the ERP system
Invoice for the consulting business in accordance with a high volume of fixed fees, T&M and cost plus government contracts; including accounts receivable on those projects
Review contract terms and associated information to ensure project setup generates appropriate results
Issue and review client invoices to ensure they are in accordance with the contract terms
Perform monthly reconciliations of billed/unbilled vs. revenue, researches and resolves unexplained reconciling items
Monitor project balances on Accounts Receivable, Work in Progress and Billing in Excess accounts
Analyze and verify internal consistency, completeness and accuracy of project data, revenue and cost budgets/forecasts
Provide month-end reporting on project performance including gross margin variances
Prepare ad hoc journal entries and analyze specific costs or project account ledgers
Prepare retroactive rate adjustments based on provisional billing rates
Perform detailed GL analysis and prepares final invoices for federal projects

Qualifications Required:

3+ years' experience working in a consulting, architectural engineering or construction company
Working knowledge of job cost accounting software and ERP systems; Oracle is a plus
Experience preparing invoices and working as a project accountant for government type contracts is highly desirable
At least 1 year professional accounting experience - Can be internship experience
Familiarity with the government contract compliance regulations found in the FAR, CAS is preferred, but not required
Four year degree or equivalent related experience
