Job Description


In this PROPERTY ACCOUNTANT role, you will be:
  • Managing all accounting and financial reporting for a group of commercial properties. This includes applying cash and accrual accounting principles to prepare, analyze, maintain and deliver complete and accurate financial reports for a moderately complex portfolio of clients and properties.
  • Completing intermediate to advanced level accounting transactions to prepare client financial statement packages. Ensuring that all expenses, receipts, owner's distributions, funding requests and other transactions for the accounting period have been accurately posted.
  • Generating and reviewing financial packages for accuracy and comprehensive reporting. Preparing packages on a schedule to ensure timely delivery to the client and other management teams.
  • Reviewing and auditing funding and payment requests for accuracy, documentation and authorization in accordance with established operating procedures.
  • Responding to and resolving issues and requests from management teams and clients regarding various accounting issues and reports, including Profit and Loss statements.
  • Participating in budgeting and forecasting for assigned property portfolio, new property and client transitions, and client audit requests.
  • Verifying the accuracy of all rent roll information and ensuring that all tenant billings and lease changes are entered in the appropriate software.
  • Ensuring that cash receipts and payables are entered and processed in a timely manner.
  • Monitoring and maintaining cash balances as required by the client. Resolving and responding to cash balance issues.
  • Preparing management fee calculations and ensuring that related invoices are paid.
  • Ensuring that all debt, real estate tax and owner distribution payments are made in a timely manner and recorded appropriately.
  • Verifying that bank reconciliation is completed in a timely manner.
  • Assisting in the transitions of properties into and out of the portfolio of business.

In this role, you need:
  • Degree from a four-year college or university program with an emphasis in accounting, finance or related field required.
  • A minimum of four years prior accounting, finance or related experience required.
  • Experience with real estate accounting software, including Yardi, is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to customers.
  • Ability to effectively present information.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) regulations including an intermediate knowledge of financial terms and principles to include accounting methods (cash, accrual, and full GAAP).
  • Ability to conduct intermediate financial analysis.
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex documents.
  • Ability to solve problems including offering solutions in situations.
  • Intermediate analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of computer software and hardware (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite Products).
  • Ability to work in multiple accounting software applications.
  • Ability to be responsible for setting your own project deadlines.
