Vaco Logistics has an immediate opening in Charleston, SC area for Manager of Safety of Intermodal Transportation

The nature of this job requires an individual who has the leadership skills necessary to oversee safety at our Intermodal Transport Trucking Division. The primary focus and responsibility of the position is to create a healthful and safe work environment for our employees, independent contractors, associates, and the public. Specific responsibilities include: accident prevention, injury avoidance, D.O.T. and OSHA compliance, cargo security, independent contractor safety performance and training programs, and independent contractor recognition programs. Demonstrating good judgment and making sound decisions is of equal importance. This person will work to develop and implement practices and programs that will improve safety performance.

  • Responsible for managing trucking accident prevention programs, injury avoidance programs, cargo security programs, and D.O.T. and OSHA compliance programs.
  • Responsible for improving accident and injury safety performance.
  • Must attain satisfactory CSA and DOT safety ratings.
  • Assist with programs geared towards improving driver orientation and retention.
  • Assist in managing independent contractor defensive driving training program and a safe driver recognition program.

Job Specifications
  • At least 5 years of experience in safety in a transportation environment. Experience with multiple facility responsibility.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of all safety regulations including federal and state, and governmental agencies such as OSHA, OSHA, DOT, etc.
  • Must have a demonstrated history of managing and developing people.
  • Strong interpersonal traits such as ethics, values, diplomacy and sensitivity are important.
  • Must be able to relate to individuals at all levels including independent contractors.
  • Must possess interpersonal and communication skills in order to interact receptively and make valuable contributions to the management team.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of Federal weight laws and DOT requirements.
  • Must have knowledge of hazardous materials regulations and be familiar with State and Federal safety laws.
  • Must be computer literate and have intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs such as word, excel and PowerPoint. In addition, working knowledge of an e-mail system is necessary.
  • A Bachelor of Arts or Sciences degree is preferred but not necessary.
