Job Description

Satellite System Integration Engineer

The Satellite System Integration Engineer will design, develop and deploy solutions that span across hardware and software products with a focus on our various satellite partners. This resource will evaluate both existing and new applications and systems to determine integration requirements (technical and performance) and to ensure final solutions meet project and customer organizational needs.

Must be familiar with standard integration concepts, practices, and procedures. This role will perform a variety of tasks and must be able to multi-task effectively. May lead or direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Must be able to perform job functions in an independent manner, provide leadership and drive collaboration across disciplines in all solution development and support related activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze business/technical requirements to understand integration needs

* Coordinating with internal program technical leads in prioritizing, documenting, and communicating integration activities

* Assist developers through designing network/system integration environments to support requirements

* Assist in the design/construction of hardware test environments

* Analyzing and resolving complex integration challenges based on independent, hands-on identification and diagnosis of technical problems

* Troubleshoot hardware and software issues and provide appropriate support to identify and solve problems

* Write scripts, programs, and other tools as needed to support integration efforts

* Document integration plans, methods, environments

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 5 years of working closely with Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Project Engineering, and System Test.
  • Analyze business/technical requirements to understand integration needs
  • Coordinating with internal program technical leads in prioritizing, documenting, and communicating integration activities
  • Assist developers through designing integration environments to support requirements
  • Assist in the design/construction of hardware test environments
  • Analyzing and resolving complex integration challenges based on independent, hands-on identification and diagnosis of technical problems
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues and provide appropriate support to identify and solve problems
  • Write scripts, programs, and other tools as needed to support integration efforts
  • Support remote aircraft, network, or test environment installs as needed
  • Document integration plans, methods, environments
  • Prioritize, resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely fashion. Strong ability to manage multiple efforts simultaneously
  • Must be an appropriate organizational fit for the Thales culture
  • Must speak, read and write English fluently

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Computer Literate with Microsoft Tools: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, and Project
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical abilities to support troubleshooting
  • Ability to communicate technical issues in an assertive and tactful manner
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

  • Familiarity with satellite concepts, architecture, and terminology
  • Familiarity with common networking concepts and protocols; experience with protocol analysis
  • Familiarity with C++ and java based system architectures, integration standards and tools, and standard web-services standards and architectures
  • Familiarity with Python, PHP, MySql, and other tools used for automation
  • Familiarity with Jira, Jama, Confluence, and Stash(git)
  • Familiarity with Linux administration and virtualization (VBox, VMWare, KVM)
  • Familiarity with Agile, Waterfall and plan-driven development processes for complex systems
  • Familiarity with basic electronics and schematics
  • Familiarity with cables and their construction
