Job Description

Vaco is assisting a family-owned company in the Memphis/North Mississippi area in their search for a Senior Accountant. If you are looking for a place to develop your leadership skills and gain experience in various departments of a company, this could be the job for you!

Some of the responsibilities include:

Prepares the daily cash reports, which includes daily reconciliation of cash reports to on-line bank activity for all companies

Prepares the monthly bank reconciliations

Prepares and reviews all standard and recurring general ledger activity

Prepares and files the company's sales and use tax filings, GST returns and other governmental reporting

Responsible for the reporting and analysis of the daily sales activity for the company's three retail stores

Records and reports all fixed asset activity including the monthly depreciation

Prepares and reviews the monthly sales commission reporting and specialized sales program reporting

Reconciles balance sheet and key income statement accounts on a monthly basis

Distributes monthly departmental budget variance reports and associated detail

Assists the controller in developing procedures and controls to generate and gather accurate financial information from all areas of the company

Prepares workpapers and provides support to external auditors at year end

Special projects and other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Minimum education (or experience equivalent) requirement:

Bachelors degree in Accounting required.

Certified Public Accountant designation preferred.

Experience should include:

Five or more years accounting experience. Candidate must have had the responsibility of preparing GAAP basis financial statement on a monthly basis, preferably in a multi-state, multi-company, and multi-divisional manufacturing environment. Candidate should have a working knowledge of basic costing principles. Experience working in a budget-oriented environment is desired. Experience working with external auditors also a plus. Must be proficient in using a personal computer and related office software. Knowledge of Monarch preferred and knowledge of Microsoft Excel or comparable software a must.

Individuals should be able to work as part of a team and must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, be an adept problem solver, and have the flexibility to handle changing priorities. The successful candidate must be detail oriented and have strong organizational skills. In addition, the successful individual must be a self-starter.
