Job Description


OVERVIEW:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the accounting records, primarily focused on the monthly close cycle, ensuring the accuracy of the fixed asset records for book and tax purposes, reconciling assigned balance sheet accounts on a timely basis, and helping to establish accounting policies and procedures. The Senior Accountant records, summarizes and reconciles business transactions. In addition to these general accounting responsibilities, the Senior Accountant will perform the detailed work in one or more technical accounting area in support of the department. The successful candidate will bring technical expertise to the Company in at least one of the following areas:

  • ERP in a manufacturing environment, with knowledge of inventory and COGS valuation using standard cost and applying NRV to the inventory
  • Accounting for stock options (employee and nonemployee) with Equity Edge or equivalent software
  • Ability to analyze, document, and implement new GAAP requirements (such as Rev Rec ASC 606 or Lease Accounting ASC 842)
  • Accounting for equity instruments (including analysis of equity versus liability classification) and proper balance sheet presentation (temporary equity vs. permanent equity)
  • Knowledge of sales and use tax requirements in a multi-state environment and the use of / implementation of sales tax software such as Avalara
  • Knowledge of VAT tax requirements for Europe, Mexico, Canada, etc. and ability to work with experts in country to ensure proper filings and remittances or refunds
  • Ability to edit and / or write Notes to Financial statements for areas of responsibility


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cash, Investments, Prepaids (journal entries, reconciliations)
  • Management of fixed assets (capitalization, tagging, depreciation, retirement, both book and tax reporting)
  • Completing the annual property and sales/use tax returns for California and other states/jurisdictions as assigned
  • Clearing suspense accounts
  • Month-end close including (but not limited to) determining or reviewing requisite accruals, reviewing balance sheet and income statement accounts for proper balances and classifications, and ensuring standard journal entries are completed
  • Completing miscellaneous account analyses or other ad hoc reporting as requested
  • Documenting internal controls, procedures and streamlining transaction processing to improve efficiencies
    • Maintaining overall month-end close schedule, balance sheet reconciliations and reporting matrix
    • Royalty reporting
      • Completing technical accounting activities as assigned based upon technical expertise
      • Participating in the audit of the annual physical inventory
      • Ensure timely and accurate completion of annual 1099-MISC and similar informational tax reporting
      • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: •Strong MS Excel •Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP •Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. •Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ration, and percent. •Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
