Job Description

Primary Responsibilities

  • Post and clear daily cash account transactions
  • Reconcile bank and lender statements monthly
  • Balance intercompany accounts monthly
  • Review third party property level monthly reports (profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash account reconciliations, general ledger and sub-ledgers) for accuracy and completeness
  • Communicate reporting issues and provide correcting entries to third party property management
  • Analyze financial data for variances and provide explanations and/or corrective action ensure financial reporting is in line with GAAP
  • Assist asset management with property level operating budget preparation and review
  • Prepare month end, quarter end and year end reports for lenders and internal use for assigned portfolio
  • Assist lead portfolio accountant with calculating mezzanine loan payments and recording associated journal entries
  • Assist lead portfolio accountant with equity close outs
  • Prepare invoices
  • Receive payments on invoices and allocate payment appropriately
  • Organize and maintain files to include reporting packages, bank statements and reconciliations, leases, agreements, and journal entry support
  • Assist with audit requests
  • Assist with year-end tax preparation
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned
  • Assist with overseeing, directing, and organizing the work of the accounting team.
  • Assist with enhancing and implementing policies, internal controls, accounting standards, and procedures. Communicate goals and strategy to senior executives.
  • Assist Controller with planning, directing and coordinating all accounting functions.
  • Manage month, quarter, and year end closes.
  • Assist in producing, maintaining and presenting all required financial statements and reports.
  • Assist in the timely completion of all tasks, monthly close-outs, and internal and external reporting including investor and lender financial reporting.
  • Assist in the supervision and mentoring of accounting staff.
  • Assist Controller with monthly, quarterly and annual reporting

Knowledge and Skills Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related discipline
  • CPA preferred with Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulations
  • 5-7 years accounting experience, preferably in real estate e to include both RE audit and tax and compliance experience
  • Technology proficient, including PowerPoint, Word and Excel
  • Familiarity with scheduling software
