Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for organizing and coordinating clients' tax data for the accurate, timely completion of individual tax returns and simple- to moderately-complex corporate, partnership, S-corp, and trust tax returns
  • Performs diversified accounting, auditing, and tax assignments under the direction of supervisor, manager or partner.
  • Demonstrates competency in technical skills, work quality, and application of professional and firm standards.
  • Meets time constraints and client deadlines.
  • Participates in planning and scheduling client engagements.
  • Directs and instructs assistants, where applicable, in work to be performed and working paper review.
  • Determines the extent of test-checking required in an audit and selects the transactions to be tested.
  • Prepares and indexes working papers; performs various procedures established under generally accepted accounting principles to verify accuracy and validity of client's financial matters.
  • Prepares complicated tax returns, and returns on dissolution or liquidation.
  • Suggests client tax planning ideas to supervisor, manager, or partner.
  • Prepares routine correspondence to client for approval and signature of a partner; writes comments for management letters.
  • Drafts reports including footnotes.
  • Performs the broadest range of accountant tasks so that direct participation of supervisors, managers, or partners is kept to a minimum.
  • Reviews tax information submitted by client for completeness; meets with or calls clients with questions.
  • Possesses knowledge of tax regulations in order to answer clients' questions.
  • Prepares personal tax returns of various complexities.
  • Prepares corporate, partnership, and S-corp returns not requiring advanced expertise.
  • Prepares amended returns of any variety and complexity.
  • Prepares personal tax projections through utilization of computer software.
  • Responds to tax notices of any sort and does initial drafts of any letters required.
  • Performs tax research projects requiring minimal expertise.
  • Prepares property tax refund forms, employee benefit plan tax returns, carryback returns for NOL'S, and payroll tax returns.
  • Completes S-election and requests for accounting changes, as required.
  • Makes adjusting entries and completes trial balances in order to prepare a tax return.
  • Maintains a good understanding of depreciation and depreciation computer software package in order to set up clients and read and understand depreciation reports.
  • Prepares tax accruals as may be required in preparing corporate tax returns.
  • Works with confidential client matters; requires ability to keep matters confidential.
  • Maintains consistent, regular attendance.
  • Maintains amiable and harmonious relationships with all co-workers, clients, vendors and visitors in successfully performing all job responsibilities.
  • Possesses knowledge of and complies with all Company policies.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least three (3) years experience in public accounting, demonstrating a progression in complexity of auditing and accounting tasks and tax knowledge.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, or Master's degree in accounting.
  • Either hold a current and valid certified public accountant's license, or be working toward obtaining the license by taking and passing the applicable state CPA exam.
