Job Description


We own and operate an internal MPLS network consisting of several hundred nodes. The MPLS network is built on Nokia's platform (Alcatel/Lucent). Our IT ETS (Engineering Technical Services) group provides the engineering support for all aspects of designing and deploying the MPLS network and associated services. The MPLS network connects to and interoperates with primarily Cisco networking equipment. We are looking to grow the MPLS to about 1000 nodes in the next 2-3 years. Most of these will be direct replacement for existing SONET nodes, so all associated TDM services will need to be moved to MPLS.

Scope of Work

We desire augmenting the engineering staff with personnel who can provide detailed engineering support for our existing and proposed MPLS node and services deployments at remote locations and convert all existing services from SONET to MPLS.

Tasks will include:

  • Inventory existing SONET services and develop cutover and testing plan
  • Complete site survey to determine space and power needs
  • MPLS network and services design, implementation, and testing
  • MPLS NMS system integration
  • Maintaining accurate MPLS documentations and databases
  • Job order creation to support ongoing MPLS deployments and the migration of services from SONET to MPLS
  • Creating/modifying/approving MOPs (Method of Procedure)
  • Attending onsite meetings as necessary
  • Some travel is required


We are looking for a senior network engineer with a solid track record of quickly becoming an expert with new technologies. The ideal candidate is someone who has been challenged in their career and had to take on the responsibility of owning the network. Someone who has failed and become better for it. We are looking for a self-motivated team player.

  • The candidate must be extremely versed in routing protocols, particularly BGP, IS-IS, OSPF2 and OSPF3.
  • Must be knowledgeable of QoS concepts and mechanics. This includes DSCP, COS, Shaping, policing, and order of precedence.
  • Must have a basic understanding of MPLS technologies, concepts and terminology.
  • Must have Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have effective computer skills including detailed knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Products Visio, Power Point, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Must be willing to learn new technologies.
  • A plus would be experience working with transport services including DWDM, Microwave, or any MPLS technology.
