Job Description

Our client is seeking a Senior Regulatory Consultant to serve as the company expert in technical GAAP and SEC 1934 Act Compliance. This is a long-term (2 year) contract opportunity.

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of relevant experience
  • Utility industry experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
  • Experience in SEC-related reporting and financial statements
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Strong communication and researching skills

Responsibilities:

  • Annual reporting- Oversee and review annual regulatory reports.
  • Quarterly reporting- regulatory asset and liability cashflows.
  • Monthly reporting- deferred balances, pass through analysis.
  • Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of all 1934 Act SEC-related financial reports and is responsible for all related corporate file maintenance.
  • Research accounting issues for proper application of generally accepted accounting principles. Interpret the findings and report the impact on the organization to senior management.
  • Maintain current knowledge and evaluation of new accounting pronouncements.
  • Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of unaudited quarterly and annual financial reports for the three utility subsidiaries and the Nonutility Group for internal use.
  • Prepare financial statements for various employee benefit plans.
  • Work closely with senior management, independent auditors, and external legal counsel to appropriately communicate financial results and operations to shareholders, the SEC, and securities analysts.
  • Work closely with senior management, independent auditors, and external legal counsel on any 1933 SEC-related filings.
  • Facilitate CEO/CFO certification internal process.
  • Assist with complex accounting areas such as share based compensation, pensions, derivatives, impairment calculations, and business acquisitions.
  • Supervise staff that perform similar functions as well as those that perform certain nonutility group functions.
