Job Description

Position Summary

The Senior Accounting Staff, formerly Accountant IV, is responsible for assisting the Accounting Manager with reviewing journal entries and financial statements during month end close, prepare and review monthly account reconciliations, and oversee transactions impacting the general ledger. Lead and mentor staff accountants and direct their day-to-day activities. Prepare monthly analytics and ad hoc reporting as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the balance sheet reconciliation process, including guiding staff who prepare the reconciliations, reviewing the reconciliations, ensuring timely resolution of reconciling items, and continually improve processes
  • Assist in the preparation and review of the monthly close checklists and close calendars as part of the planning for close
  • Prepare and/or review journal entries
  • Assist in ensuring timely completion of close tasks
  • Review variances, and research same to ensure results are accurate and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles
  • Analyze financial statement trends, creates reports and explains variances to management
  • Prepare/review/signs-off on account reconciliations as assigned
  • Assist in acquisition implementations, close planning, and preparation of process documents
  • Ensure adherence to the Company's accounting policies and procedures including SOX, and assist in evaluating and implementing new accounting policies and controls, as needed
  • Prepare routine and ad hoc reporting along with supporting documentation for monthly, quarterly, and year-end results
  • Assists in the annual and quarterly financial audits and internal control compliance testing
  • Support the process of preparing desktop procedures
  • Research and documentation of more complex accounting principles and processes
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Reports any real or suspected violation of the corporate compliance program, company policies and procedures, harassment or other prohibited activities in accordance with the reporting policies of the company
  • Obtains clarification of policy whenever necessary and may use the resources available through the Compliance, Human Resources or Legal Department to do so

  • Bachelor's Degree from four-year college or university and seven or more years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working in a multi-company/entity
  • Public company experience preferred
  • CPA and/or Master's degree preferred

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Office Suite specifically Excel (Advanced Level), Word, Outlook, Access
  • Oracle or other ERP applications
  • Reconciliation software experience a plus
  • Experience with accounting system flow and design preferred
