Training & Development Specialist - Virginia Beach, VA - Contract to Hire/Direct Hire opportunity - pay between $60,000-$70,000

Currently seeking a business professional with a background in learning, training, and development. This person in this position reports to the director of learning and talent development and will aid in managing and planning instructional design projects and initiatives of training programs. This position is responsible for developing instructional courses tailored to meet the needs of employees. The training and development specialist will be responsible for leveraging the LMS in support of learning and developing various needs across the organization. The ideal candidate for this position will be familiar with the ADDIE model to perform the needs (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation) and/or life cycle of the management of the company's programs/training.


  • Performs needs, job, and task analysis to determine appropriate instructional design approach
  • Explore a variety of resources, obtains and interprets a range of technical/professional information including technical notes, specifications, and related documents
  • Determines the most effective instructional approach including a blend of instructor-led, virtual, and/or self-directed techniques
  • Collaborating with others to plan and design courses/curricula; ensures accuracy and test multimedia elements
  • Utilizes eLearning software (i.e. Articulate, Camtasia) and other instructional design software when designing training programs
  • Designs training collateral and aids including but not limited to: training tracks, instructor guides, demonstrations, models, multimedia visual aids. Learner activities, workbooks, assessments, and reference materials with high attention to quality and role specificity
  • Given a set of specific instructional design assignments and objectives, investigates the requirements for completing the assigned tasks, and creates project outlines, schedules and deliver methods
  • Implements evaluation strategies that measure the participants' reactions, on-the-job application, learning, and assisting in gathering impact to the business data
  • Serves as training expert on various project teams providing training advice for new product/compliance/service implementation initiatives

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field required (Human Resource Management, Education, etc.)
  • 5-7 years of experience in design and development of instructional materials
  • Experience with learning management systems and development of Level I - IV evaluation process development and extensive experience with instructor led, computer and virtual-based training and training development
  • Experience with designing programs using web-based tools such as Snag it, Articulate, Lectora, Camtasia, WebEx, or similar systems

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge in adult learning concepts, program development, instructional design and development, and eLearning instruction
  • Strong knowledge of training technologies and instructional design with focus on eLearning content development and related tools (e.g. Captivate, Articulate, Lectora, Learning Management System (LMS), Acrobat, Photoshop)
  • Experience in video and video editing
  • Strong project management skills
  • Proficient with MS Office - Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, SharePoint
  • Strong team player with the ability to organize, prioritize, handle time constraints and manage changing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to absorb complex information quickly and translate to a variety of audiences
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, ability to organize and prioritize work
