Job Description

As a Ukraine Music Content Specialist, you are a self-starter who will ramp up quickly to contribute to supporting editorial and merchandising initiatives on our streaming music service / platform. You have experience working as a playlist programmer, music journalist or critic, or editor for a digital music service. You are well-versed in popular culture and music (from mainstream to niche styles), with deep knowledge in Ukraine (and, ideally, Pop). You are a music expert but are also able to understand and program to the interests of an average listener.

Additionally, you possess deep knowledge of the musical and cultural descriptors and attributes commonly used to classify music in the digital age, including genre, style and era. You are equally comfortable programming playlists as you are tackling research-intensive and detail-oriented assignments. You have an ear for quality music and are prepared to defend your editorial decisions.

Finally, you bring strong analytical abilities and impeccable oral and written communication skills. You possess a high degree of comfort and flexibility when working cross-functionally with product, design, marketing, engineering, and other teams to develop an innovative user experience. You enjoy working both independently and collaboratively to develop new ideas and scalable processes. You bring a proven ability to prioritize, meet critical deadlines, and take on challenging tasks with enthusiasm and a problem-solving mindset.

General Responsibilities:

Pitch, create, and optimize programming features across a wide range of genres and musical experiences (e.g., working out, partying, etc.) in tune with user interests
Identify and drive co-promotion or cross-promotion opportunities with internal partners
Conduct metrics-based analysis of playlist performance and provide recommendations for enhancing their effectiveness
Support partner and technical teams to troubleshoot user-facing issues
Work with content operations team to ensure all priority titles in programming plans are ordered and ingested
Support back catalog optimization and metadata quality initiatives
Contribute to our global music merchandising team and its efforts to drive site improvements and innovative features on behalf of users worldwide

Daily Responsibilities

Create, QA, and optimize playlists and other programming features
Track and plan around priority releases, including videos, singles, and albums
Maintain our Play Music's programming calendar with releases, events, and programming plans
Perform research and QA tasks on a range of programming and metadata-driven projects
Data entry and analysis for monitoring performance of playlists and campaigns
Represent and champion the genre(s) in cross-functional working groups with internal Partnerships, PR & Marketing teams

Minimum Requirements

BA/BS required (Manager is open to degree)
Minimum of 1-2 years editorial or music programming work for a mobile/online music service, digital content website, or business. Equivalent experience in journalism or blogging will be considered with strong musical knowledge and tech savviness.
Deep knowledge and understanding of Ukraine music and the music industry, including relevant record labels, eras and sub-genre distinctions past and present
Strong editorial and creative skills: Ability to craft messaging and work with design and production resources to drive creative execution
Strong analytical skills: Ability to analyze research or performance data and apply that analysis to optimize our editorial strategy
Tech-savvy: Familiarity with music services and mobile culture, as well as ability to learn new tools and tech quickly
High attention to detail: Ability to maintain several different projects simultaneously, while creating precise and effective customer-facing communications

Preferred Qualifications

Expertise in mainstrem Ukraine music is a major plus.
Advanced degree (MBA/MS) a plus.
