Salary: $175,000 - $215,000/annually
Location: Union, NJ (2 days a week in office)
About the role: An expanding insurance company is seeking a Controller to partner closely with the CFO and enhance the organization’s financial operations. This newly established role will play a key part in strengthening accounting practices, driving process improvements, and ensuring accurate reporting. The position requires a hands-on professional with a solid grounding in accounting principles and experience navigating both GAAP and statutory frameworks.
Responsibilities:
- Direct the preparation of statutory filings and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Supervise treasury functions and oversee cash flow and collections.
- Lead the monthly close cycle, including reconciliation reviews and adherence to timelines.
- Develop and maintain robust balance sheet controls and reconciliation processes for leadership review.
- Produce investor reporting packages on a monthly basis and deliver quarterly updates for stakeholders.
- Assemble board reporting materials for quarterly meetings.
- Coordinate annual and quarterly statutory statements and supporting documentation.
- Manage external audits for GAAP and statutory reporting.
- Evaluate and refine accounts payable workflows to improve efficiency and strengthen internal controls.
- Maintain expense tracking and reconciliation processes for management oversight.
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and preparation of related financial analyses.
- 10 years’ experience; background in Big 4 public accounting.
- CPA designation strongly preferred.
- Insurance industry experience is highly valued.
- Proficiency with NetSuite is a significant advantage.
- Demonstrated expertise in GAAP accounting, statutory reporting, and audit coordination.
- Strong knowledge of internal controls and a track record of implementing process improvements.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
