Our client, a longstanding nonprofit in the South Bay area, is seeking a Controller to lead its fiscal operations during a period of growth and modernization.
Location:
San Jose, CA. This position is hybrid, 2 days WFH, 3 days onsite
Job Description:
This role offers the opportunity to partner closely with executive leadership, drive financial accuracy and transparency, and support a mission-driven organization serving communities across multiple counties.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop the fiscal department’s management team across four functional areas, ensuring compliance, operational efficiency, and timely issue resolution.
- Direct preparation of financial and compliance reports, including reconciliations, financial statements, state claims, vendor audit reviews, and other required documentation.
- Manage multiple large-scale annual budgets, ensuring compliance with funding requirements and preventing overspending.
- Oversee cash flow management, monitor receivables, and maintain liquidity to support operations.
- Develop and review financial forecasts and budgets and present summary reports to internal leadership and governing bodies.
- Provide financial guidance to internal departments, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and fiscal processes.
- Drive efficiency through automation and innovative solutions to improve workflow and accuracy across the department.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including reporting, budgeting, and process improvement.
- Minimum 2 years of management experience overseeing multiple functional areas within a complex environment.
- Strong technical accounting skills with deep knowledge of GAAP, budgeting, and auditing principles.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner across departments and present financial information to varied audiences.
- Strong ERP experience and system implementation is a plus.
