Revenue Recognition Lead Accountant – Fintech

Our client, a global fintech and consumer financial technology provider, is seeking a Revenue Recognition Lead. 

Location:
This is a hybrid role with onsite requirements 3 days per week in Mountain View, CA.

Job Description:
This person will serve as the primary technical revenue expert for new product launches, evolving financial platforms, and complex partnership models. This position offers the opportunity to influence high visibility business initiatives, guide revenue policy for innovative financial offerings, and work cross functionally with product, legal, FP&A, and technical teams.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead technical revenue recognition policy direction for fintech product lines, ensuring accurate interpretation and application of ASC 606 and related accounting standards.
  • Partner with Product, Sales, Marketing, FP&A, Legal, and Engineering teams to advise on revenue implications of new offerings, business model changes, and system roadmaps.
  • Perform technical accounting research, document accounting positions, and communicate decisions transparently across stakeholder groups.
  • Maintain and update revenue recognition policies, staying current on regulatory changes and industry best practices.
  • Establish and uphold controls to ensure accurate revenue accounting, forecasting, and deferred revenue balances.
  • Serve as subject?matter expert on revenue recognition, providing training to cross?functional teams and supporting due diligence on acquisitions.
  • Ensure proper accounting treatment for product and service offerings, including documentation and review of revenue?related accounts.
  • Influence system design and reporting tool improvements to streamline revenue processes and improve accuracy.
  • Work effectively across business units and levels of management, providing clear, actionable guidance in high visibility and ambiguous situations.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance and 7 years of relevant experience; CPA strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in ASC 606 and related revenue accounting literature.
  • Strong technical accounting skills with proven ability to interpret and translate guidance into operational requirements.
  • Experience partnering cross functionally with product, finance, engineering, and legal teams on revenue impacting initiatives.
  • Strong analytical skills and fluency with ERP and revenue systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, RevPro/RevStream), along with advanced Excel proficiency.
