Senior Accountant

Position Overview

The Senior Accountant supports the overall financial management of the organization by overseeing key accounting processes and maintaining the integrity of financial records. This role is primarily responsible for the administration of accounts receivable and payroll activities while assisting with broader accounting functions to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficient operations.

The position reports to the CFO and works closely with other members of the finance and human resources teams. The Senior Accountant also provides support to other accounting roles when needed to maintain continuity of operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all aspects of the accounts receivable process, including billing, tracking of miscellaneous receivables, payment processing through multiple methods, reconciliation of payments, investigation of discrepancies, and management of monthly aging reports.
  • Manage and execute the biweekly payroll cycle in collaboration with the CFO and Director of Human Resources. Ensure payroll data is processed accurately, recorded appropriately in the general ledger, and complies with applicable policies and regulations.
  • Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules, including quarterly updates in the designated fixed asset management system.
  • Review invoices, record related activity on a monthly basis, and manage follow-up communications related to unrelated business income reporting.
  • Support daily cash management by recording banking transactions and assisting with account reconciliations.
  • Prepare and submit required monthly sales tax filings.
  • Maintain organized and complete records for accounts receivable, payroll, and other assigned accounting activities.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for inquiries related to billing, responding to calls, emails, and in-person questions.
  • Assist with year-end financial statement audits and the preparation of materials needed for annual tax filings.
  • Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation for management review and approval.
  • Support the administration of accounting systems, including account setup, report generation, maintenance of member financial records, and point-of-sale system assistance.
  • Provide backup support for accounts payable functions as necessary.
  • Document accounting procedures and maintain process documentation to support operational consistency.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, enhance efficiency, and strengthen internal controls.
  • Deliver high-quality service and communication to both internal team members and external customers.
  • Provide assistance to the CFO and Controller on additional accounting or financial projects as required.
  • Safeguard confidential information and exercise discretion when handling sensitive financial or personnel data.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the accounting and finance function.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • Approximately 4–6 years of relevant accounting experience, including at least two years of end-to-end payroll processing.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting, payroll, and other Windows-based software applications.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing accurate and well-organized work.
  • Demonstrated interest in improving processes and leveraging systems to enhance efficiency.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a service-oriented approach.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
  • Self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

Communication & Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and OneNote.
  • Ability to prepare written reports, business communications, and procedural documentation.
  • Comfortable presenting information and responding to questions from colleagues, members, vendors, and the public.
  • Ability to address sensitive or confidential inquiries professionally and effectively.
  • Capacity to learn new systems, processes, and technologies quickly.

Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to sit, stand, or move throughout the workday as needed. Tasks may involve the use of hands and arms for computer work, reaching, and handling materials. Occasional lifting of items up to approximately 25 pounds may be required.

Vision Requirements
  • Ability to perform close-up work such as reading documents and viewing computer screens.
  • Ability to see objects at a distance as required for general workplace awareness.

Work Environment
The role is performed in a professional office setting with a moderate level of background noise. The position requires the ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment within a high-quality, service-focused atmosphere.
