Role: Senior Manager – Accounting Controls, Internal Audit & Governance
Salary: $200,000 - $220,000/annually
Location: NYC (in?office 5 days/week)
About the role: Our client is looking for a senior accounting controls leader to help establish the governance foundation for an AI?driven product suite. This person will define control standards, guide the integration of accounting safeguards into product features, and drive readiness for third?party audits. Will be responsible for SOC 1 readiness. The role partners closely with product, engineering, and enterprise customers to ensure the platform supports strong, auditable financial processes.
Responsibilities:
- Develop the control environment for the product, outlining required approval structures, review steps, reconciliation needs, and audit evidence expectations.
- Lead efforts related to SOC 1 preparation—documenting objectives, coordinating testing, gathering evidence, and supporting external audit teams.
- Work with product and engineering teams to ensure features embed appropriate safeguards such as workflow controls, logs, permissions, and traceability.
- Evaluate new or evolving product features for accounting implications and provide clear, practical guidance on risk management.
- Serve as the main contact for enterprise audit partners, preparing walkthroughs, responding to requests, and ensuring documentation is complete and clear.
- Create and maintain customer?ready materials to help users and their auditors understand how controls are supported within the product.
- Continuously refine frameworks, staying aligned with industry standards and regulatory developments.
Requirements:
- 10 years in audit, controllership, or advisory roles; Big 4, top?tier consulting, with startup technology/SaaS/AI experience preferred.
- Hands?on experience designing, testing, or managing SOC 1 or SOX controls.
- Strong understanding of control concepts like reconciliations, approvals, change management, and documentation requirements.
- Skilled at communicating with both technical and non?technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable presenting to auditors, internal leadership, and external clients.
- Able to thrive in a fast?moving environment with evolving product requirements.
- CPA license preferred.
- Background working in SaaS or software?centric organizations.
- Exposure to AI or automation in financial workflows.
