The Director, Finance provides strategic and operational leadership for the organization’s finance function and related corporate services. The role is responsible for financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, audit coordination, internal controls, compliance, procurement oversight, legal spend tracking, and property and facilities oversight. The Director also provides financial leadership for the Autism Fee-for-Service portfolio, including pricing, performance monitoring, sustainability analysis, and decision support. In addition, the role leads business transformation initiatives to strengthen financial systems, processes, controls, and reporting across the organization, and works closely with internal leaders and external stakeholders to support sound financial stewardship and organizational priorities.

About the Opportunity
Financial Leadership and Stewardship
- Lead the organization's finance function, including budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, financial reporting, cash flow monitoring, audit support, and internal controls.
- Oversee the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including variance analysis, year-end working papers, and supporting schedules.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulatory requirements, funder expectations, and organizational policies.
- Provide strategic financial advice and recommendations to senior leadership to support planning, resource allocation, and decision-making.
- Monitor financial performance, identify risks and pressures, and recommend mitigation strategies to support financial sustainability.
- Support the development and implementation of financial policies, procedures, and controls that strengthen accountability and operational effectiveness.
- Provide financial leadership and oversight for the Autism Fee-for-Service portfolio, including budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, pricing review, performance monitoring, and regular reporting to senior leadership
- Lead the development of financial models, break-even analysis, scenario planning, and sustainability assessments to support business decisions and long-term viability
- Monitor revenue, margins, utilization, staffing cost structure, and service mix to identify risks, opportunities, and required mitigation strategies
- Partner with Autism operational leaders to align service delivery, capacity planning, business development, pricing decisions, and improvement actions with financial targets and organizational sustainability
- Lead financial and business transformation initiatives to improve systems, workflows, controls, reporting, and service delivery.
- Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, data quality, automation, and decision support across finance and related corporate services functions.
- Partner with leaders across the organization to redesign and improve processes that support planning, reporting, procurement, and operational performance.
- Support system implementations, upgrades, and process improvements related to finance, reporting, and business operations.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and service excellence.
- Provide financial leadership and business support to operational portfolios, including analysis of financial performance, cost drivers, utilization, and sustainability.
- Support the development of business cases, scenario analysis, pricing analysis, and other financial models to inform program and organizational decisions.
- Work with operational leaders to align financial planning with service delivery needs, funding assumptions, and organizational objectives.
- Translate complex financial information into practical guidance for non-financial leaders.
- Oversee financial aspects of procurement and contracting processes to support compliance with applicable legislation, directives, and organizational policies.
- Provide advice and support on procurement documentation, financial evaluation, budget confirmation, and approval processes.
- Support contract monitoring and financial oversight to ensure expenditures are aligned with approved budgets, agreements, and organizational requirements.
- Maintain strong internal controls and compliance practices related to purchasing, contracting, and financial approvals.
- Oversee property and facilities-related financial and administrative matters, including maintenance planning, vendor oversight, lease-related financial considerations, and site-related operational support.
- Support planning and budgeting for facilities maintenance, occupancy costs, and property-related projects.
- Monitor related expenditures and support long-term planning for capital and site needs.
- Oversee legal spend tracking, budget monitoring, and related reporting.
- Coordinate with internal leaders and external legal counsel to support the administration and financial oversight of legal matters, contracts, claims, and other legal processes as required.
- Support organizational leaders by providing financial and administrative coordination related to legal matters and external professional services.
- Lead, coach, mentor, and support staff within the finance and related corporate services functions.
- Establish clear priorities, expectations, and accountability for team performance and deliverables.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, staff development, succession planning, and performance management.
- Foster collaboration, continuous learning, and a strong client-service mindset within the team.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal leaders, funders, auditors, financial institutions, legal counsel, vendors, and other external stakeholders.
- Support the senior leadership team, Board, and relevant Board committees with financial information, analysis, and recommendations.
- Contribute to organizational planning, risk management, policy development, and strategic initiatives as a member of the leadership team.
- Represent the finance function in cross-functional initiatives and discussions requiring strategic, financial, or operational input.
About You:
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required.
- Minimum 7 to 10 years of progressively senior experience in finance, accounting, and business operations.
- Experience leading budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, audit coordination, and internal control functions.
- Experience leading staff and managing multiple areas of responsibility in a complex environment.
- Experience supporting organizational planning, financial strategy, and cross-functional decision-making.
- Experience in a not-for-profit, public sector, healthcare, or broader public sector environment is an asset.
- Experience with business transformation, process redesign, and systems implementation is an asset.
- Experience overseeing property-related financial matters, procurement processes, and legal spend tracking is an asset.
Technical Knowledge - Strong knowledge of accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations.
- Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, audit coordination, internal controls, and compliance requirements.
- Sound knowledge of modified accrual reporting, CRA requirements, and relevant regulatory and policy frameworks.
- Knowledge of applicable legislation and frameworks, including the CPA Handbook, Income Tax Act, Broader Public Sector accountability requirements, and privacy legislation.
- Understanding of procurement, contracting, and financial oversight practices
- Strong ability to interpret complex financial and operational matters.
- Ability to identify risks, assess implications, and develop practical solutions.
- Ability to analyze data, trends, and external changes to inform sound decision-making.
- Strong problem-solving and financial modeling skills.
